These are the logs after turning off everything I can think of... Just to reconfirm, the recording source looks like this:
Digital Recording Plugin
-settings
AVerMedia A180 (type 2) - *note- thats what it detects. I've tried both.
device number 1 - *note 2nd card is 2
the rest of the settings are default/unchangeable. nothing is checked in BDA advanced settings.
Schedules Direct
No Channel Changer Required

The EPG updates the Channel Names to what I have selected in Schedules Direct. "Tuning Request" is blank for all channels right now.

If you download graphedit, then select 'insert filters' from the menu, then try to insert the 'Microsoft ATSC Network Provider' and 'AVerMedia BDA ATSC Tuner' filters, can you connect the two (ie dragging output pin of Provider filter to the Tuner filer input pin)? This is what looks to be failing with your cards - no real clues why though. The exact same generic logic is working for everyone else with ATSC cards.

Nope, they don't connect. The line disappears as soon as its snaps to the input0 pin. Is there anything in the properties of either filter that might help?

BTW, I grabbed "MONOGRAM graphstudio." Looked like I'd have to d/l a 300MB SDK to get MS'. If I need to, I can...

Sorry, I dont really know what to suggest on this one. This would normally be ok.

LOL! I'm always good/lucky at finding the weirdeties (I swear that's a word!).

I guess I could try the old "get them off the phone" helpdesk advice and reinstall the O/S. Maybe the non-ultimate edition of Vista (so no MCE)...

Well, again, thank you for trying and the quick responses. I do appreciate it.

Its definately O/S and/or installed programs related. I loaded up Vista Business edition on another hard drive I had and it all works fine.

There were some issues installing gbpvr and not registering some of the .ax files, but that was a on brand-new install w/ no patches/updates. Installed SP1 and then gbpvr installed fine... but still gave a "failed install" message for some reason. Not sure why as there didn't appear to be errors and the software is working.

If/when I figure out what is causing the conflict, I'll update the post in case a future-me-clone runs into the same problem...

Well, it appears its a combination of Vista Ultimate and "MCE approved" cards, at least my a180's.

I did a bare install of Ultimate. Didn't even start up/set up media center (which isn't running by default) and the graphedit didn't work.

So thats a no for Ultimate and a yes for Business. I'll try Home and/or Home Premium and post results.

Maybe something to do with the mpeg2 codecs? I noticed I didn't actually get a picture when running on Business, but I did get full signal/quality strength. Moved on before installing any mpeg2 codecs... Ultimate would have them for MC/dvd playback, but Business doesn't come with any that I saw...

No, I wouldnt think so. They're much later in the process.

It has to be something related to media center. Home Premium didn't work, but Home Basic does.

Would love to see a reply from someone else using Vista Ultimate or Home Premium with "MCE approved" capture devices to see if I'm alone in this not working.

I am having the same issue with the M780. The Microsoft network provider works with the Avermedia BDA driver. Does this help?
