Where is this stored? I want to set a default for all image views to preview, but can't find in DB or skin file.

This may be a nice feature to add...one default for folders and one for images, but still allow you to change per item as it is now.

I can do manually for the time being.

I've been into the DB, but couldn't find any kind of view column to change the setting. There is just name, time (unless it's encoded into the time somehow), and the thumbnail.

the views are stored in "mypictures.xml" found in the gbpvr root directory. just change the views in my pictures (only need to change the views for folders already in the mypictures.xml file, or just delete the file, and it will automatically recreate a new one, then just change the view in the root to the view you want) then just click on the main menu button, that should save the mypictures.xml file to view you want. if you enter a directory without a set view it will use the last view you were using.

Ahhh....I actually saw that early in my poking around, but I see what you're doing there now.

I guess there's no way to set a default up front, but if I opened each folder, I could do a find/replace. I suppose a way to make a default setting would be to have those write to the top of the xml page, and then inherit them as new dirs are written.

I do web programming in cfm, so I like seeing how ppl set up dynamic functions. I thought you were storing them in the DB at first. I'm assuming their are faster writes as the DB grows (mine is 27Mb now).

Would this, and GB overall, be faster if the DBs were registered as DSNs? Just thinking out loud.

i decided to keep it in the xml file since the xml files are quite small, they are loaded once, and kept in memory, so very fast. db would be a little slower. only downside to xml file is that its not always saved, i only save the xmlfile if you exit my pictures correctly, if you press a shortcut button on the new 45 button remote, gbpvr doesnt call the deactivate method, and the file isnt saved.

I was wondering if in some ways it would, though. It certainly is if you make a lot of changes to the view/sort. I think it depends on what the majority of ppl use it for.

I've always designed for power over speed, so I would have made the small speed sacrifice. Having view/sort in db means you could reassing entire collection, and you could keep settings by just moving db to new install.

This is not me saying that my way is better. I think ppl would be more po'ed if it were slow, so I think you went the right way to build for the masses. In any case, it interests me to know how it works, and the thinking behind it.
