hi,

We've been running GB-PVR 0.99.5 for a couple of years. Fantastic, we think GB-PVR is the best, blogged about it here. I just took the plunge to upgrade after we've moved and finished the networking. I needed to retune the RF and I figured I should upgrade.

I downloaded and installed the newest .NET framework (first time failed so I unstalled the one I had and reinstalled) as well as the updated Microsoft runtime. All appeared to run fine.

I downloaded and ran GBPVR10213.msi. The installer runs to what seems like the very end, then backtracks and finally ends with a pop-up window fatal error.

Sad thing is then I tested my previous installation of GB-PVR. It runs ok but as soon as I try Live TV it gives the error "no connection can be made because the target machine actively refused it".

I feel crippled, we use this as our primary recording device. If I see any feedback will try to do what you suggest, and report back on any of your recommendations. (logs.rar attached)

kind regards and many thanks for a superb product.

export your recordings
copy gbpvr folder to another location (just in case)
uninstall gbpvr and delete the whole devnz folder (may need to restart before it will let you do this)
then install fresh version (make sure you turn off antivirus spyware crap just in case)
post logs if it doesnt work
the logs you posted are all gbpvr ones as pvrx2 didnt install

What version of Windows are you using? Many have had a problem with Vista not allowing the install to finish. I had to log in with the "real" Admin account, not just an account with Admin privs to get it to install on my kids system with Vista Home Basic. Sad
i3-3570k, 8GB RAM, Win10 Pro, Nvidia GT710, HDHomeRun (OTA), NPVR 6.x

I'm having the same problem. I had installed 1.02.13 over 1.02.09 and it was working but acting a little flaky so I decided it was time to wipe & re-install. I uninstalled GB-PVR, renamed the devnz directory and re-ran the installer. It gets to the 'registering file' part of the install and then rolls back. It happens too fast to see any error messages and ends with a 'Fatal error' message but doesn't say what it was. I've never had a problem installing any previous release. Nothing in the event log except another 'Fatal installer error'...not too helpful. Does it write a log somewhere? I've running XP Pro SP2. It's a client box so not a big deal for now but it's pretty weird. Any ideas where to look?

alanlevin, I'm assuming your logs are coming from a backup and not a true reinstall of 99.5 since I don't see any 1.2.13 information here and the dates are so varied. To start I would run the Re-register Filters option on the Start menu, but I don't know what else you might need to do to use a backup.

I had similar problems when I was playing some games installing different versions of GBPVR. It appears that there is a problem with the service not being properly removed that pops up occasionally. Here is a discussion back in 2005.

ajm517 Wrote:I experienced the same problem. After some digging, it appears the gbpvr service is not being removed during the uninstall (with a reboot afterward).
It appears the installation script is failing trying to install the service as it already exists.

The service can be removed manually using the service controller command from a command prompt:

sc delete "gb-pvr recording service"

The msi installation proceeded normally once the service was removed.

The sc delete "gb-pvr recording service" fixed the problem for me.

Me too, including on the machine now giving the problem. It's a RE-install that's having issues. The recording service was stopped...I made sure before I tried the install...nothing GB-PVR related is running.

It might be that the service was not removed, as Gedanken has suggested. I'll check that this evening.

Yep, that was it. Thanks for the tip.
