There are a couple other options out there if you are only looking to display information on pending recordings/current recordings/conflicts etc.

One involves using GBPVRCli to write information to files and use LCDSmarties native ability to read text files to display it. THis works as long as the Recording Service is running because it is all triggered using the post/para processing batch files. There are a few threads on this. Here is one.

The other is using the RSS feeds supplied by the EWA. Check this thread here.

But if you want to display information about what is currently playing then I don't think these methods will work.
Using GB-PVR since December 2005

We seriously need a more pro way of solving this issue.
GBPVR is made for the "setop-box" thus it most support natively the devices that go with it.
If you ask me, this is a serious shortcomming of GBPVR development.
3 programs + additional file on disk is not very fancy programming. At school the master would give half of points at max for this LOL

A "more pro" way would also be to charge quite a bit of money for a program like GBPVR. GBPVR has one developer and one developer only (and the majority of it's users appreciate the phenomenal job he is doing in spite of this). As with any program, certain features have higher priority than others. An LCD display does not affect the usability of a PVR system. It is more of a "bling" feature and therefore not high on the priority list. This should also be weighed heavily against the fact that sub has provided such a robust interface for other developers to work on plugins for these additional features that people want. I would love for sub to write a Netflix plugin as well so that I would not have to do it but realistically, it would only be used by a small percentage of the GBPVR user base so I would not expect him to do it anytime soon. (I am of course ignoring the fact that he can't even use Netflix in NZ.)

If you only want status of what's playing now, imonvfd plugin can write to a text file and LCDSmartie can read that text file and display it. If you want upcoming recordings, then I don't know since I didn't need that functionality.

Upcoming & in-progress recordings can be done quite easily using GBPVRCLI tool (part of Slimmgbpvr utility) which outputs data to a text file and LCDSmartie which can display it. This has been discussed before in a number of threads, see for example
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=32818

It works very well.

I was wondering if anyone has used a Pertelian lcd device with GBPVR? My computer is far away and hidden from view so i was thinking one of these with a long USB cord would be good. I saw that its supported by LCDSmartie, so by reading above it seems like it will work.
