Sorry posted in the wrong place previously!

I am running a laptop Pentium M processor 1400 with 512 of ram, it has xp pro service pack 3 installed and the latest GBPVR.

All my movies are divx or xvid. I do not use the pc for watching movies merely running a MVP in my daughters room.

The problem is that I can select a movie from the menu and it will start playing... the pc then runs at 100% cpu, which as it is not doing anything else (normally) is fine, however usually about 20 mins into the movie the film stops and the MVP goes to "contacting server" screen. The laptop for no apparent reason has switched off! it does not do this under any other circumstance so I must assume it is related to the transcoding.....

I wonder if it the processing is causing the cpu to overheat and the pc is shutting down to protect itself....

Any it is currently rendering the MVP useless and worse still my 6 year old daughter totally upset.....

I am looking at either fixing this problem or maybe reencoding movies so that they will play natively.... any one help with either???

It will be transcoding on-the-fly and that processor, I think, will be right at its limit.

Off the top of my head and as a guess, I'd say your cpu fan has failed and the system is shutting down.
You could try the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool to monitor temperatures and/or make it work hard and see what happens to the temps.

On the basis the laptop was not powerful enough I have loaded the latest GBPVR to the playroom pc:

Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 2Gb of Ram running Media center 2005 service pack 3.

Now I have run into a new problem, every time I click on a video file on the MVP it reboots and has to reconnect to the server.... I have looked through the forum, but have not found a similar issue. The movie is a divx and played for 20 mins on the laptop ok before it shut down.... It is not the firewall as I disabled this whilst trying..

Assume we are talking about the laptop which shuts down not the mvp bebooting?

How do I check and see if it is a service and what the setting for a crash are?
