On a whim, I decided to see if there was a similar ATSCMode reg entry for the Pinnacle PCTV HD Stick and I found that it doesn't have a similar one, it has the exact same entry. Changing it to "2" has enabled QAM in GBPVR which I had been previously unable to do.

whurlston,

Just curious which tuner you were able to get QAM support on, was in the Kworld or Pinnacle PCTV HD Stick. I am thinking of getting one and need QAM support, so i would love to know which one would work

Thanks

pBS got it working on a KWorld and I used his method to get it working on the Pinnacle PCTV Ultimate stick.

Enter your zip code and it should tell you the channels available as well as the modulation type.

Is this only valid for the hdhomerun tuner? It does not line up with what I am manually mapped out with the Hauppauge 1250. And it list a tone of sub channels that I have never seen.

No, you should be able to tune those with any QAM tuner. The first channels listed are OTA ATSC (the ones that have a modulation type of 8VSB).

I should note that if your cable company makes changes to the lineup, it may take a few days before the website shows the change.

Its interesting that there is no way to choose which cable company you need the qam for. I have both Charter and Comcast in my back yard. I wonder if the entries in this range ; qam256 77 437 BRAVO 528x480i 4:3 are for Charter because I have never seen a hit about sub 122 when I do the map digi to epg with Comcast

and following up how would the bravo channel listed above be traslated into the tuning request in GBPVR?

There's not enough data there. We would need to know the video and audio PIDS.

Yeah sorry, I figured that out after read a different one of your posts. Too bad, tuning the for qam with comcast and my hauppauge 1250 is a real pain. And I am really not sure who the biggest culprit is!!

Have you tried TS Reader? It will give you the PID numbers needed. I'm not sure if it supports the 1250 or not.

You have many good suggestions. I downloaded TSReader and got it working with
the 340U even in QAM mode by choosing the Hauppauge generic QAM device.

I am glad you were able to get QAM working with your tuner. Did you write a tool
for changing ATSCMode? I didn't know how to follow your last instructions to me,
re: exporting a Registery key.

I did a search with a Hex -Ascii program I have, for "ATSCMode" through all the 21 driver files that hardware manager shows for my ATSC 2870 device. I found nothing.
The word mode shows up in a few places. I also looked in the Arcsoft TotalMedia
directory but there are so many files I have not done a complete search, still no luck.

I used a USB sniffer to record what happens when you plug in the 340 but again there
are between 30,000 and 300,000 entries to look for a string. I was going to try two
captures, one with the registery key set to 0 and the other one set to 2 and try a file
compare between them looking for differences, but I imagine the start up procedure
might not always occur in the exact order. Does your receiver have both NTSC and ATSC modes? Does it have eMPIA chips? Perhaps this ATSCMode has been invented
by eMPIA. It would be interesting if people with other types of receiver would do a
registery search for that string "ATSCMode". If we can find out the calling convention then a line or two could
be added to the GBPVR program, so that if the present Demodulation mode change command fails it could
try the ATSCMode instead.

More later

I have not had time to work on the utility to change the ATSCMode yet. You can find it by doing the following:

Start -> Run "regedit.exe"
Navigate to the following key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Go to "Edit" -> "Find"
Type in "ATSCMode" and select only "Values".
Double click the key to edit it.
