EPG Utility: YApi2XML (discontinued)

I have been experiencing this error since I installed yapi2xml and I posted a couple of times asking for help. I think I also posted that I had tried deleting the ini file and the zip file, blowing away the install directory and re-installing. Installed an older version of yapi2xml. Deleted and re-installed the lastest version. All to no avail.

What I probably failed to say is that the data zip file exists, and appears to NOT be corrupted. Yapi2xml simply fails to unzip it OR fails to process the resulting text file.

So apparently my question should have been, "Since the problem is not with the data source, or with my installation, what else within yapi2xml can cause this error?"

From what I understand, its probably because you have a duplicate channel or something in your listings and its screwing up GB-PVR. I was having troubles getting the piece of crap Yapi2XML to work for me as well. I finally just gave up on it and went with Zap2XML and have been happy ever since. It works great and never have problems with it. I suggest you and everyone who reads this just give up on Yapi because it just isn't very good.

Its not a problem with GBPVR. It never gets that far. Yapi2xml fails to unzip the data file, or fails to process the resulting text fie. I don't get any xml data because of that. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the text file in the zip file, and I don't have any trouble unzipping the data file using the Windows zip capability. So I am convinced there is a problem with the Yapi2xml code.

I have used zap2xml too, which is why I like the Yapi data. It has more content. Like ratings (both content and "stars"), multiple categories, credits (if you want them), episode numbers, and the list goes on. I have manually unzipped the data, wrote a PERL parser to convert it to xmltv format and liked what I got. If I can't get Yapi2xml working, I will likely add some code to the PERL parser to retrieve and unzip the data and then convert it.

Oz is away serving our country at the moment so he is unable to keep up with development. I'll try to take a look at the issue tonight. What provider are you using? I was not aware that Yahoo Go4TV even had listings for the UK. I thought they were US listings only.

You must have this forum confused with one where users are nasty all the time...

Yapi2xml is based on protocols (not all that stable at best) made available from Yahoo. At one time Yapi2xml was quite better at its job; certainly with the author on board in developing and refining what seemed like an ever changing playing field Yahoo was providing.

Indeed it may have come to the end of its usefulness, but it has certainly provided free listing to the tightwads who refused to pay for an infinitely more stable professional solution (Schedules Direct).

The other free scrapers all have their days numbered as well. Just a matter of time.

The code is now public and you're free to fix it all you want. Perhaps digging in and fixing it would be more proactive than bitching about it.

I have looked at the code, and have not had good success whenever I attempt to get listing from the server. I believe it is a fault with the servers rather than the program itself, in spite of those who see correct data being downloaded, and just not converted correctly.

I have given up on Yapi2XML, but would certainly defend what it tried to do.

And then there's the issue of the hours and hours developers work on projects like this, turning out their projects to the community for free, only to have end users, who feel it is a right, rather than a privelage to have free listings, complain when they have troubles.

When a program is realeasd as free, a developer only hopes he helps others, and hopefully receives articulated appreciation.

Calling Yapi2XML 'a piece of crap' is hardly appreciation.

I have looked at the code, and have not had good success whenever I attempt to get listing from the server. I believe it is a fault with the servers rather than the program itself, in spite of those who see correct data being downloaded, and just not converted correctly.

After it downloads a file, how can it be a fault with the servers?

I watch Yapi2xml download a zip file (which I suspect is not corrupt), complain that it is missing or corrupt, deletes it, downloads again - five times. At the end, I have a zip file (fortunately it does not delete it) that I can unzip with the Windows zip capability and parse with my homebrew PERL script and make absolutely beautiful xmltv data. So maybe whatever Yapi2xml uses to determine a corrupt file is too finicky.

Can I send you a data file (about 2.5M) that you can try to figure out why Yapi2xml thinks it is corrupt? I know it is not missing.

for me the THE FILE IS OVER 10 MEGABYTES AND WILL ALWAYS REPORT AS CORRUPT UNTIL YAPI HAS ALL THE PIECES REQUIRED TO create the xml file

for me once that 10+meg file is finished downloading it get;s unzipped to around 100megs of data.

the program is very good and you have to consider the number of users pounding the servers constantly.

One theory is an IP block so always update once a week not everyday.

use the zap2it scraper while you wait for yapi to take if you ran out of guide data.

My mistake about the size of the zip file, it is only 242k. When I convert it using my PERL script it expands to 2.5M. Note that for my lineup, the zip file IS complete at 242k (there are only 13 channels in the entire lineup). What other pieces is Yapi2xml waiting for?

well today I have a huge problem... not sure if it is posted here but yapi no longer loads the channels from my settings and trying a zip search produces a runtime error 9

happens on 2 of my computers so not sure what to think of it
