I am trying to summarize why I think GBPVR on the NMT is better then the standard applications and I'd appreciate some comments. I think sub is being modest when he says that it needs the PVR to get full benefits. I'm probably missing some things

. Media Centre advantages without a capture card

a. Interface

- faster more colourful default interface, custom skining available too
- paging through large directories (with prev and next key) especially on shares is noticably faster
- http access to all files as fast as MyiHome, llink.
- access to multiple drives and share without changing Media Source
- access to DVD without changing Media Source
- maintain video libraries (delete, transcode etc)

- selectable Album/Video Art view mode
- several plugins provide enhanced presentation of video collections

- interface available on host pc, client pcs, Syabas NMT-based devices and Hauppauge MVP.

b. Improved Photo & Slide show

- faster transitions
- no black screens
- EXIF support
- several selectable view modes

c. Audio feature

- Shuffle Play or Play All with near gapless playback
- ML2 plugin provides playlist play, and jukebox random play across all drives and shares

d. Video

- IPTV support via plugin through ubustream

e. Internet Radio

- Shoutcast play by genre or by stored favourites
- access to mp3 and AAC audio streams
- Microsoft and Real Audio stream available through uburadio plugins
- Sirius available through ubustream
- screensaver (when HDMI audio is not used)

f. Great support at forums.gbpvr.com

2. Additional PVR advantages with a capture card

- HD and SD capture OTA, Satellite and cable. including (DVB-S, DVB-T, QAM, ATSC)
- Hauppauge HD-PVR support for HD recording from any component source
- plugin access to other satellite video source ie dreambox
- multiple card support
- great support at forums.gbpvr.com
- Electronic Program Guide (EPG) for recording content.
- LiveTV mode (including pause)
- Time shift ( watching in-progress recordings even from multiple source)
- digital audio from satellite (via the DVB-T Radio plugin)
- digital audio from cable (via manual entry)
- recordings interface group by show
- search for shows

3. Future enhancements with Syabas support

- comskip (commercial skip)
- resume function for video (across all machines)

4. Did I mention great support at forums.gbpvr.com

- sub (need I say more)
- large knowledgeable community who are patient and eager to help

Plugin architecture, if it's not already covert by gbpvr/pch, then it can be added using DotNet (is a plus for some people).

How does ML2's album art and tag reading improve on the built in Album Art today?

Thanks, but if Syabas made it easy you wouldn't even need me.

I think (sub will have to confirm) only uses Jpg files in the folder, where I do embedded as well - from MP3 and some of the other format.

Not having any album art I'm not sure, but I thought the real use of album art was during music play which is missing on the NMT right now. However I realize that artist and tag genre across all driver is a big plus.

Certainly the painless expandability via plugins is a major selling point.

Once the nausea of getting the emulation running on the PCH is done, the rest "just works"
