I understood, but gave you all I had. I had checked the server's log directory at the same time I checked the client log directory. There were no entries for that date/time frame even though the server did serve some files correctly. I'll look again when I return home and replicate if needed. Thanks for responding.

Its most likely your firewall software getting in the way then.

If the client sends a request to open a file, then it'll be written on the server logs. If there is no log entry, then no request made it to the server.

Interesting. I tried it severl time, no log file, even though gbPVR played WMV files without difficulty, as well as photo gallery files, and tried to play gbPVR Recorded files (that is, the item came up on the menu, I clicked "Play" the screen turned black and (eventually) the info screen/controls appeared, but no video or sound). But no log for any of this on the server side. Currently using Windows Firewall (ZoneAlarm caused too many problems) - any thoughts on how to get around this assuming that is the cause? thanks

If you are streaming, make sure port 7967 is open in Windows Firewall. Otherwise, try switching to File Sharing and see if you have any better results.

Hello again. Had some time to try again after a while. Unblocking 7967 did work - a little. The file now plays, but audio only. I am attaching server logs, hoping that this may help diagnose the problem.

Thank you.

you need a video decoder then i would say
try this one if you dont have another
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

it may just be a matter of selecting a video decoder in gbpvr config (other than default)

Thanks, now I have video, but it is very choppy (audio is fine). I have no problem playing these files with VLC rading the files on the server, but of course lose the menus and episode titles from gbPVR. Any thoughts?

May have solved it with changing rendering. Looking much better now. Thanks for the help (I am using the MPEG decoder, not the MPV decoder, since the latter shrunk the video)

Our prior posts crossed

server: Dell Dimension 2400 Pentium 2.2Ghz, 384MB RAM; client: Dell Dimension 2350 2GHz Celeron, 640M RAM. Granted, these are not exactly robust, but that is how I managed to build a PVR on the cheap.

Each connected to the router by a 100' CAT5 cable.

Streaming, would sharing be a better choice?
