I tried searching and seen a lot of problems with people and live tv, but I could'nt find anything specific with the hd-pvr. I have an HD-PVR hooked up component cables and analog audio to a STB. I also have a HVR-1600 hooked up to the analog tuner with straight analog cable. Whenever I watch live tv through the hd-pvr a lot of times i wil just get a black screen then goes right back to the main menu. Other times it will work but whenever I go to change channels it goes right back to the menu. I have tried both coreavc and the arcsoft encoder, firewire channel change and the blaster, as well as live preview mode enabled and disabled and get the same results...Heres my logs if that will help any...thanks..

Did you zip the logs up immediately after it happened? ie, should be the last thing in your logs? It doesnt look like it.

Heres the lastest log file....I got live TV through the hd-pvr with the "bling lights" and red status light on, changed channel, picture froze with the last image when the change was made using firewire channel change method, then it went back to the main menu... I then exited out of pvrx2, bling lights were still on, and green "G" was still shown in the tray icon.....

Does it work any better if you enabled live preview mode?

Also, you might need to look at setting your set top box to always output a single resolution (1080i or 72op). If the resolution changes, which can happen in the first second or so if the previous channel was a different resolution, then the HDPVR can generate a TS file with funny timestamps (PCR clock reset but not PTS clock)

set top box is set at 480p, and I also tried live preview mode and does the same thing. I either get just a black screen or i get live tv, make a channel change then it freezes and goes back to main menu. When I try to go back to live tv, it just flashes a quick image then back to main menu...

Can you reproduce it with live preview enabled, then post the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log?

forgot the files....i was able to do channel change in live preview, though the picture was very choppy....should i be using the arcsoft encoder or coreavc? they both seem to use close to 90% of my cpu...its an athlon 4200 x2

I know some people have found they have to have live preview disabled with the HD PVR, otherwise its very choppy. I'm not sure if you're in this crowd, or the high CPU usage is the cause. The Arcsoft decoder is able to use H.264 hardware acceleration features on modern video cards (nvidia 8500/8600 etc), to give very low CPU. If you've got an older card without H.264 acceleration, then coreavc will give lower CPU usage than the arcsoft decoder.
