GBPVR Client, Share Permissions Nightmare?

I can't for the life of me work out GBPVR Client sharing VISTA=>VISTA. I had this working in XP=>XP, but when I try to share a folder in VISTA I can only add share permissions and security for GUEST access.

What I (think I remember) I could do in XP was:
Right click a folder, properties, advanced sharing, check share, permissions, add, and under locations, see all the PC's in my Workgroup, or in my Network. But the only one that I can see there is the PC I am on.
And yes, I can see all the PC's in my Network in the network Tab (even in the Dinky network map), which are all on the same Network Domain. 192.168.1.XXX. If so, why can't I see them when I go to share the folders and choose certain users on the network?

Yup I have with Firewalls Off on both PC's.
Yes I have File & Public Folder Sharing and Network Discovery on. password protected sharing off, media sharing off.
It's set up as a Private Network.

What am I missing? Must be something simple surely? I am loathe to enable Guest share on anything I don't need to. I read something about a user account on the Server, but do I really need to do this, surely I can just assign a location/user via the share?

Sorry I can't help you, I have a similar problem. I have a home network with 2 computers and 3 laptops. It all worked fine until a few days ago, then suddenly I (me being the Vista laptop) couldn't "see" the other systems and the other systems can't see me anymore. I have no idea what has changed. If I find it I'll let you know.

Typically in a home environment you don't share with devices you share with users or account. When you click share on the folder from the "Choose people to share with" dialog assuming you have the account set up just add it, if not create it. I found it much easier than XP.

See, there's MYPC (John, say) and the OTHERPC (Jack, say)

Surely the OTHERPC already has a Computer Name (lets say OTHERPC) and a user associated with that computer. Adding a NEW user on MYPC seems superfluous? And why can I only see MYPC in the locations list and not

This is where I'm confused. Are you saying I need to create a user for MYPC. This seems to defeat the purpose of a network which has devices/locations/users all associated with the OTHERPC already?

Then you would likely use the option that JavaWiz was talking about. I have the same accounts on all my machines when I build them, so typically I would come in as either mvallevand with a password or more typically guest, I have a local LAN and I'm not afraid of a guest account.

OK Thanks. This is such a PITA. Now I've stuffed up GBPVR completlely so I can't get into EWA or PVRX2 and the thing is recording constantly. I also got a few messages about permissions. Grrr...!!

as mine is on a lan i added "everyone" then you need to change what they can do, ie. full control and then go to the security tab and set those options again otherwise you get those you do not have permission type errors

I struggeled a day trying to use a Vista PC as a GBPVR server.
If you want a Vista PC as a server, don't install GBPVR to the Program Files directory, because there is to much security in the Program Files for simple file sharing.
Install GBPVR to C:\GBPVR, then Share the folder and add user Everyone as CoOwner, then you can access the Vista GBPVR Server.
This works for me and scheduling from a remote PC.
