1.2.13 won't install

Sorry to bring this here but I'm at my wits end.

I finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade from 1.0.16 using the old GB-PVR interface (which I still like I have to say), mainly because I didn't want to get left behind with plug-in developments.

1.0.16 is quite an old version now so I decided to delete contents of the gbpvr folder (carefully saving it somewhere else just in case!) and start from scratch with the new. I also stopped the recording service and all other processes conceivably connected with GBPVR. I also made sure that .Net 2.0 was properly installed.

The installer for 1.2.13 will not install however, getting right to the end of the install progress bar before rolling everything back, deleting files and registry entries, and reporting an error. The only logs I can find are the system logs, and simply report error 7034 - the Windows Installer terminated unexpectedly, the app msiinstaller reports error 11708. Helpful old Microsoft, as ever.

I'm running XP SP2 that's been stable since I built the dedicated PC over two years ago, and 1.0.16 has been up and running for months without needing attention, so the OS is not the problem.

I have searched here and haven't been able to find the problem. Any pointers would be gratefully received - I'm strongly inclined at this moment to head straight back to a version that I know works...

Not sure if it will help, but after a little googling, it seems you can create a detailed install log with the following command:

msiexec.exe /i product.msi /l* c:\log file name.txt

I've never tried it, but it may be worth a shot.

That happned to me last month. One thing that worked for me was to install an old version 1.0.8 (I think). I then install 1.2.13 over it and it worked well. After that I tried to un-install and re-istall 1.2.13 again. No problems found after that. I think I read something about the GB-PVR service remaining on, which prevented the install program to fully complete.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I wasn't sure if installing 1.2.13 over the top of such an old version would work, as so much has changed since. I'll give it a try, with logging on as suggested (thanks javawiz). Then I'll have a go at safe mode...

Whatever happens, I'll report back (probably not before the weekend -- my life won't be worth living if I disturb a working version and so derange the recording of something important!

Ok, I've finally got around to trying this but on trying to start PVRX2, I get the following .NET error (see attached).

Any thoughts on a fix gratefully appreciated. In the meantime, I'll try reinstalling the latest .NET - I'm already on 2.0 now but who knows....?

Whurlston - thatnks for the suggestion no I haven't, mainly because I wasn't experiencing the problems highlighted in the guide.

That said, I've fixed it and have it all up and running by adopting a scorched earth policy: I uninstalled GBPVR, deleted the remaining files (mostly plug-ins) and reinstalled from scratch. Wasn't quite as painful as I expected (all those memories of setting up channels, tweaking the VMR9 rendering so the videos don't stutter and all that!).

Now for the new plugins....
