Ireland have recently relaunched their DTT "trials" using MPEG4/H264 for their SD channels. While my setup (vista64, gbpvr 1.2.13, CyberlinkPDVD) plays the HD channels fine (BBC and ITV HD from DVB-S), it used to play the trial Irish DTT HD channel fine (DVB-T) but for the new mpeg4 SD channels I get a green screen with flashes of the real colours every second or so. Oddly the config program preview window in map digital channels plays these channels fine. I've tried changing decoders (CoreAVC did the same), mux, and anything else i could think of but no joy. I also recorded a few mins and played back within PDVD itself and it does the same green thing which given the config window can play it, makes me think there's something wrong with the GBPVR capture or TS handling? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I've not been able to find it! I've attached the pvrx2.exe-native.log in case it's any help.

Have you tried switching to EVR or VMR9 video renderer to see if it makes any difference?
Also try going into the Cyberlink H.264 decoder settings and disabling hardware acceleration.
I normally use EVR and oddly switching to VMR9 custom works! but there's something that doesn't work as well as EVR (forget what - HD possibly?) so not sure I can leave it on VMR9... Is it tough luck for EVR? I'll have to play about some more! Thanks for the quick reply!!
Just had a play and yes, the BBC HD channel is totally jerky which is a bummer. Will have to try and work out which is easier to fix!

Green garbage on the screen is pretty common with the flakey ATI hardware H.264 acceleration, which made makes me think you have an ATI card? Switching to VMR9 is disabling that hardware acceleration.
These arent GB-PVR problems, so there is very little I can do about it. You'd either need to hope ATI fixes the bugs, or try a nvidia video card instead, or see if you can get by with software decoding.

Yeah, it's a 780G motherboard with HD3200 built in. I'll play around with the ATI drivers cause I might have installed the wrong one and I might remove CCC cause that improved things before. Again, thanks for the quick replies!

ATI H.264 support = FAIL
There have been many people in NZ (including myself) who have all gone down the ATI path and found that with interlaced H.264 content it simply does not work. Your best bet is to switch to an NVidia card - 8500 or greater work fine because you really do need hardware acceleration for H.264 content, using a codec like FFDshow or CoreAVC that doesn't do hardware acceleration is not going to deliver the best results. Out of curiosity what audio codec(s) are being used in Ireland?

BigMoose,
I'm also trying to pick up the H.264 "trials" with limited success. For me though Cyberlink PDVD 8 is the only thing that will play back the H.264 files. I'm running XP with the VMR9 FSE renderer and have the built in TS reader disabled, I also had to update to the latest ATI drivers to get any usable image. This set up will only playback the recorded files though, (playback and seeking isn't fantastic, but usable - for me they won't seek at all really without hardware acceleration enabled). I only get audio if I try and watch live TV or in progress recordings (bit of a pain with all the live Olympic coverage at the mo, I have to wait for the 5 hour recordings to finish to watch em'). I don't know weather it's of any use to you or not, but the above set-up does let me at least view the recorded H.264 files. I've chalked it up to early adopter syndrome and am hoping that it all shakes it's self out in the wash. Completely off topic: but what did you think of the BCI awarding Boxer the DTT licences, for me all three were poor but I was really surprised Boxer got it. Personally I think they've set us up for an Irish "ondigital" situation.

In fairness though this really is technically a test transmission by RTE (our national broadcaster) DTT doesn't offically go live until (looks like) September 2009 . Welcome to the roar of the Celtic tiger/the e-Hub of Europe - Ireland finally getting digital TV in 2009 ![]()

Hairy,
Oddly changing from EVR to VMR9 Custom lets me watch the H264 trials just fine. The BBC HD channel is now unwatchable (but was fine with EVR) which is a real pain in the arse. ITV HD was showing sod all (as usual) when I was testing last night but assume it's as bad as the BBC one on VMR9. So I've got a bit of work to do to see if I can find a solution where both are watchable. VMR9 FSE gives weird horizontal lines - I say lines, it's more like the half the screen is a few pixels left/right from the rest, giving the appearance of a line. Off topic: I read boards.ie and have followed the BCI award but was on holiday when it happened but have caught up on some posts. It seems mad to me to award it to someone who's offering, what, one channel that cant be got FTA via Sat? I guess the majority of the population who want more than the 4 national channels already have Sat, cable or MMDS or a massive aerial pointing to NI or Wales and wont be interested in pay DTT anyway. Although the latter category might find their UK feed going bad post analog switch off. I can see it being a total disaster other than the FTA mux with the RTE etc channels on. For me all I want is the FTA mux as I get the rest from Sat ![]()

Best of luck getting it all to play nice.
My plan, (as I'm sure the plan of many others in our neck of the woods) is to go the same route as yourself - Irish FTA and Freesat combo. Personally I'm hoping to revamp the HTPC before the end of the year, and cram as many dual DTT/sat tuners as I can get in there ![]() I'd really appreciate you maybe posting here if you get it all ticking along. Cheers and best of luck
