Hello All...

Been using GBPVR for 2 years or so...
Been using v1.2.13 since it's release in May...
Have had zero issues with it, until now...

And this is a doozey, lol.

First off I dont use comskip or conversion at all...
I do however use PostProcessing.bat, but it will not run...
Needless to say when this occurs, the logs are effectively erased in a matter of minutes.
My first instinct was to go into CONFIG and ensure that there was indeed no flag for commercial detection and no settings for conversion. And as expected there were no flags or settings. Closed CONFIG, Recording Service restarted normally, but the logs just kept pouring out the same thing over and over. Next step, was to actually set the flag, and conversion settings in CONFIG, close CONFIG, reopen CONFIG, and turn it all off. And this works just fine. Until a few recordings go by, and it goes nutty again. The only thing so far that will stop this loop, is to do the above each time I discover it.

So I figured there was something screwy in the install, some essential file had fragmented, and my current install had become schizophrenic. So I jump over here, check to make sure there is no new release, pop open my current copy of GBPVR, and try to REPAIR the install. Install goes blue bar all the way across the app, then reverses and says "Error", without any detail, and I can't find a log file. ~Shrug~ Ok fine, a full removal of GBPVR, a reboot, a manual delete of the leftovers in /devnz/, a defrag, another reboot. A full re-install of GBPVR, and away she goes, and after a few hours, the above log is spewing the same nonsense at me again. LOL

What's odd is that this just started last week, so it wouldn't seem to be a problem with the current version, as it ran fine for 3 months. And the last but not least odd part... It ONLY occurs with "Law & Order" - Any flavor... Original Flavor, SVU, and CI... Now I can't be 100% cerain that it is only L&O, but I've never caught any other show in the log.

Everything else works fine... The Webserver works. The GUI works. All scheduled recordings get recorded. I dont use any plugins or add-ons, except for WizRenameRecording.exe, but since PostProcessing.bat never fires, I dont see how it could be at fault, (it was updated to latest version when I reinstalled GBPVR).

Attached Below is a LOG file, that was created after the log went screwy, I set conversion and comskip settings, and the went back in and turned them off...

LOL, I am stumpted, I hope someone can help... Any and all advice is appreciated, MUCH THANKS in advance.

I cant see the looping in that specific file you've attached, but if you post another log showing then I'll take a look.

I think its just the logging message that is confusing you. Replace "commercial detection queue" with "post-processing queue" in this log message to get a more accurate description of what is happening. That message isnt saying it is actually running any commercial detection, rather that it is about to be queued for any post processing steps that might be configured. When these items are pulled off the queue it does the folloing post processing logic: "if postprocessing.bat exists then run it, otherwise, if comskip is enabled then run it".

ie, you dont have some commercial detection setting enabled somewhere.

um, the log I attached is after I've corrected the problem.
The snippet at the top, is what is in the log files, it is repeated thousands and thousands of times, the logs are 1048kb, or whatever the rollover is, and every line in the logs is exactly the same as I posted in the snippet. the log files are about two minutes apart, so if I dont catch the problem within 10 minutes of it starting I loose everything in the log that predates the problem.

Unfortunately I'd really need to see the log messages prior to the looping starting to be able to get anything useful to go on.

How many times has it happened? Is it every recording?

It happens once every other day or so. I've caught it 5 or 6 times in the past 10 to 12 days. It is definitely not every recording. And from empirical data, appears to only be happening after a "Law & Order" is recorded. I'll write a Perl Script to see if I can catch it as it starts.

it maybe the & messing with your batch file running as dos uses this char to start a new command...eg: "dir & pause " will do a dir and then do a pause with only 1 command line.

so if you pass it to a batch without " "quotes, it will try to run whatever's after &..
[would process Law , then would try to run Order Criminal Intent_20080820_10001100-2.mpg]
not a big problem for batches, just have to make sure everything passed is quoted..

post your postprocessing.bat and i'll see if i can't spot the problem..

My PostProcessing.bat is fairly straight forward, however since it isn't executing, I dont think it is the problem. But it is posted below...

I did manage to catch the logs, when the problem occurred again. So below is the attached ZIP of the logs leading up to the issue. They are the "GBPVRRecordingService.exe-3.log" named as <time_since_epoch>--<seconds_since_last_log>.log, I wrote a Perl script to monitor the log for size changes. So each time it was replaced the script backed it up. And as before it was "Law & Order", LOL...

I hope we can figure this out, And I swear it worked for months, then just started freaking out. I was dumbfounded it when it reappeared after the re-install, so clearly it would seem isolated to something I have going on in my setup.

To be honest, I dont know. I've spent the last half hour trying to reproduce it here, by rename various short kids shows to 'Law & Order' and doing record them, and it seems record and run the postprocessing ok.

On a hunch, maybe try setting <TryToHonourPaddingIfPossible> to false in config.xml to see if it makes any difference.

It is so weird... The GBPVR machine is a closed system, no monitor, no keyboard. I admin it by VNC, and like I said it was working fine for months. Suddenly this error just appeared. I am usually very good at troubleshooting issues in software, but this one is (as I originally said) a doozey. :confused:

I appreciate the help. I still have the Perl script monitoring the logs, I'll see if I cant find some commonality to what set's off the problem. I was considering that it might somehow be (I have two input cards) that two L&O's end at the same time. Alas this was not the case last night.

Anyway, I appreciate the time and effort it takes to review the logs and respond quickly. I'll update the thread if I figure anything out.

In NTFS you can't use the semi-colon in a filename even if it is quoted.
