PVRX2 repeatedly crashes when playing recording

So where to from here - regardless of the renderer or decoder, PVRX2 crashes while playing back DVB-T recordings, so I can't imagine all renderers/codecs are faulty!

I'm sure it is related to your audio/video decoders, since this is a fairly typical cause, and about the only difference from machine to machine. I'm not aware of any others with the same problem.

I'd try a different H.264 decoder. See this thread for the ArcSoft one: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=36814, or try to find a copy of the PowerDVD8 H.264 decoder.

If these dont help, reproduce the problem (with one of the decoders above selected), then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Also make sure you've applied the patches from the survival guide.

Didn't seem to be relevant for my problems and didn't fix the prob, but good to have anyway ;-)

You are right, I downloaded HDpack 1.7 (which includes the h.264 codec for powerdvd 8) - I already had powerdvd v6, but switching to the codec that comes with v8 fixed the problem it seems. Thanks!

Sub, having been thru the experiences I have, and having seen many forum messages from others, it seems many problems stem from various codecs (and also how they work on various combo's of hardware). Unfortunately the crashes reflect badly on gbpvr, when it's the codec at fault!
I was wondering, maybe it's worthwhile having a small list of the most commonly-used codecs, and when someone chooses a known codec its version is checked. GBPVR could then warn you if you are using an old codec with known problems.
Also, is there any performance monitoring in gbpvr? I thought if it could detect that a codec was struggling, stuttering was happening or frames being dropped, then gbpvr could warn you to update codecs...

Anyway, just some thoughts. Phil.
