sub Wrote:Did you try the TS Mux option? With this it effectively performs no muxing, and instead just writes raw transport stream files.

I have been trying to diagnose this problem for a while now but I'm not sure if it is a signal problem (as I fitted my own 90cm dish) or a mux problem or even something else. As I am playing back using the MVP that should eliminate playback problems like decoders etc. shouldn't it?

So far I have tried the cyberlink 5.0.0.1307 & ATI mux's, the ATI seems to work quite a bit better in that I can actually watch Stratos & Cue where as with the Cyberlink they just stutter & jump all the time. I noticed this message from sub this morning in another thread & wondered if the next thing to try is the TS mux, would this tell me if it's a signal problem?

The MVP server is an athlon 64 3.2ghz, 1gb RAM, SATA Raid1 320gb HDDS with a Twinhan 1027 DVB-S card so I can't see it being a problem hardware wise.

If you are using mvpmc and you would like to check if the mux is the issue, try the TS Mux and make a recording and rename the .ts recorded file to .mpg before playing it. mvpmc will then use it's own native TS mux (for SD content).

Quick update, I have now recorded 3 prog's using the TS Mux with mixed results. The first one was off Cue & it was nice & clear with no stuttering but the audio was way out of sync & so was the timeline. No.2 was off TVNZ7 & was perfect including the timeline. No.3 was again Cue & was in sync no stuttering & looked really good but the timeline was totally screwed.

Not sure where to go/look from here??

Do digital SD DVB-S broadcasts in NZ use AC3? That would explain the sync problem we have here in North America.

Nope don't think they can be AC3 as I can play them back on the MVP server & it doesn't have anything to play AC3 as far as I know....I have no idea what they are though

If you upload a 10-20MB sample to a free upload site like megaupload I will have a look.

Right I have done a bit more testing, I copied the recordings over to my test/development machine & was able to play them with MPC.
Oddly enough the first recording that was totally out of sync & had major timeline issues on the MVP was totally in sync using MPC & I could jump through the file fine, as if the timeline was all OK. The properties reported by MPC are

CUE
Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 10000Kbps [Video]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 192Kbps [Audio]
TVNZ 7
Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (16:9) 25.00fps 15000Kbps [Video]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 192Kbps [Audio]

I have also uploaded a one minute recording off CUE (link below) & it plays in sync on the MVP but has a stuffed timeline.

That CUE file has such a large sync difference between audio and video that the mvpmc mux can't handle it. If you leave it as ts and let ffmpeg transcode it, it does play better. Because it is a TS Mux file the problem is the source and I don't know if there is a solution.

Surprising it does play well on the PCH probably because it has a much larger mux.

You lost me a bit. I assume the signal from my dish is fine or you would have comment on it?

Quote:"the problem is the source"
is where I'm lost?? I'm assume others can record from CUE without problems or we would have seen other messages about it, so I also assume the problem is somewhere with my system? Or are you saying because the sync issue is so bad mvpmc can't compensate for it?

Unfortunately it will still be a while before I can look at a PCH (but may be a bit closer as two of my breeding pairs (birds) are sitting on eggs at the moment....but there are LOTS & LOTS of "ifs" when it comes to breeding birds) and it will be even longer before I can afford to replace all three MVP's with PCH's
