Tried the suggested patch. No help. Installed patch in gbpvr directory, rebooted machine. Next HD show to record failed.

While I tied the change to the MS update, I also recognize that sometime in that timeframe (do not know exactly when), Comcast changed the local CBS from SD to HD (I think I mentioned this). So, the MS patch could be coincidental. It looks like I was doing some setups that Saturday (including downloading the patches and installing), quite possibly I was re-scanning the tuner and setting up the new HD channel. So, it could still go back to a size issue.

Tonight, though, the show first failed at 9:05 on a 9:00 start. Then I stopped any remnants of GBPVR , installed the patch, and rebooted. At about 9:35 the new recording failed. Wife says 30 minute SD shows are not having any issues.

I don't see people with similar problems reported.

Would it help to upgrade to .net 3.0 or 3.5? I have seen some issues reported with 3.0.

If I upgrade .net, do I remove 2.0?

Or I could try a rollback in system restore to prior to 6/7/08. Would that also roll back GBPVR, or just the MS stuff? If I did that and it worked, I would have to figure out what patch is not working.

I would rather move forward than back, so if the later .net framework should work, maybe I should do that. .NET seems to blame GBPVR. However, this has worked great until now. I am hooked, don't want to give up on this. The security update affects the MS Jet database engine, can be seen at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=950749. Does your system in any way use that? You do have a DB.

Puzzling this is only my system though.

This computer is JUST GBPVR. nobody surfs, games, or anything else, so nothing should have changed.

Thanks
Chuck

I tried changing the BDA encoder to TS instead of DVR-MS. Mixed success.

1. Two shows recorded tonight, without failing. Perhaps the problem is in dvr-ms? Both shows took about 8GB, so they appear to be high def compared to older 1-hour shows that take 1.1 GB.

2. Playback of TS has issues. I'll start a new thread for that. I am not sure I can keep TS because of these playback issues (failure to pause/restart, Comskip issues). If I want to return to DVR-MS, what should I look at for diagnostics?

3. It appears that most failures occur around the half hour point. I suspect an issue with commercials, that a HD show with SD commercials, if not handled properly at Comcast, could cause issues int eh recording. No easy way to verify, since the recording is unuseable once it fails.

I'll try TS this week, see if failure problem really gone. then we just need to fix TS. Any ideas to diagnose/fix dvr would be good. It has worked great up until now. I beleive all the failures have been ch 13, which just recently went to HD (CBS had fight with Comcast).

Thanks
Chuck

I have to say that I am experiencing the same symptoms, 3 x BDA tuners in an XP 350 MHZ machine , the fault is not consistent the recording service does not always release at the end of a scheduled recording and locks the tuner so the status still shows as recording despite the show ending some hours before. Having programs on the same channel set to record one after another appears to make it happen more often but in general the system works fine , but one in ten locks the record service , logs will follow but just thought I should back ceandra's symptoms Thanks ...

Hi,

I would like to report I'm also seeing similar symptoms.

It seems the recorder is 'sometimes' not letting go of the recording status.

Everything worked fine until about 17 Aug and then it this started happening.

For me, so far, it affects the first two recordings of the day (dual tuner), then if I restart the recording service by going into config, it seems to record fine for the rest of the day.

Will check it records the rest of tonight correctly.

Just disconcerting to see 'recording' when it isn't!

Hmmm ... could it be an antivirus update? I'm using avast.

I use Symantec.

I have fully switched to TS. DVRMS format does not seem to be forgiving of issues, TS seems better. If there is corrpution, it has some issues, but seems to stop recording correctly, and show is watchable, but timeline can be corrupt.

I am using HAALI splitter, and it works well. ANow allows viewing while recording, and comskip works with it.

So, by getting away from dvr-ms, the problem is gone for me.

Hi,

Everything started working ok again since my last post with recordings stopping properly until last night, whereby gbpvr kept recording on one tuner for 12 hours overnight until I stopped it this morning. And the other tuner it recorded for 30 mins, stopped recording, but kept a lock of the file so it was last modified when I stopped it this morning.

Just reporting back. I've got no ideas on how to 'debug' this.

I have seen problem several times on previous occasions and I found out that it was always caused when I recorded the last show on a channel before the channel closed down for the evening and stopped transmitting (such as the channel Dave).

So I just stopped recording that show...

Hi,

That's an interesting observation.

I was taping 'The Real Hustle in LV" on BBC3 which started at 7pm and the channel starts at 7pm. But somehow I only got 50MB rather than an expected 500MB, even though the status was recording until I stopped it this morning.

The other channels was taping "Wife, Mom, Bounty Hunter" from 7:30pm for 30 min and that kept recording until I stopped it this morning giving me a 5.5GB file.

On hindsight I do seem to remember some of the programs I was recording was the 'first' show of the day for the channel so I will keep a lookout for this.
