DVD Playback

I would like to playback DVDs stored on my PVR's hard disk, keeping chapter stops, etc. I can either store VOBs or ISO files. I have no preference. I see most are storing ISO files, but could not find much more than that.

I do have the daemon installed and configured. What I don't see is which directory to drop all the .ISO files into. There's only a path for the .exe file in the config. I couldn't find anything in the Wiki about this, either.

I've had good luck using TVersity to stream to my PS3s, but I have some DVDs that have multiple episodes on one DVD like Firefly and Coupling, and really want to be able to do the chapter stops rather than just having one big VOB or MP4 file with no stops.

I personally just rip to directories (VOB files etc). One less thing needed on my machine....

You can put them anywhere you like, but it needs to be a directory you can browse to in the Video Library. Select the ISO file in the video library and it'll ask daemon tools to map the ISO, then will start playback.

When you playback ripped DVD movies in GB-PVR you get the normal menus and chapters etc.

I like VOBs better too, because TVersity likes them also.

So if I just dump a directory with all the VOB files in it, does it play off the IFO file?

You need to have an empty directory, containing a video_ts directory with the files in it. The Video Library with show you a fake "xxxxx.dvd" file that can be played.

I got this, but can't get it to play. Do I need the deamon tools or ffdshow to be installed for that?

What are you guys (the ones with issues) using to rip the DVD's?

I use DVDshrink (it's free! For gods sake dont pay for it!) and it gives me the option of "re-authoring" the DVD or "full disc backup". Either way, make sure you've got the "create video and audio TS folders" checkbox checked. You can also change the compression and all.

Give it a folder to put the rip into, and let it do it's thing.

go into the config app for GBPVR and make sure that the main directory holding all your ripped files is in the list for video in the directories tab.

When you go into PVRX2 and go to the video library, click on your DVD rip directory (whatever it may be) and it'll bring up a list of the rips you ahve in there (with the extension .dvd, as sub said). click and play.

so the structure would be like this:

M: (in my case the drive my TV shows are on)
m:\TV\ (the directory on my M drive that has my DVD folders in)

M:\TV\Firefly\ (this is the directory I have ripped the various episodes of firefly to. Great show!)

M:\TV\Firefly\EP1whateer it's calledIdont remember (the fodler the episode is ripped to)

Then I'd end up with m:\TV\Firefly\EP1\video_ts (this actually contains the VOB files)



Sounds like a deep structure, but it's not that complicated.

When in PVRX2 I jsut just navigate to video library --> TV --> firefly and all the episodes are listed there.

No extra software to isntall, no hoops to jump through (other than the directory structure but that's my own doing as I like organization).



You can also jsut backup the entire disc if you want. It'll still show up as whatever.dvd and when it opens, you'll have access to the menu if you prefer to do it that way. I like single episodes and only main movies, but everyone is different. It works no different though.

Can you reproduce the problem and zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

If its ripped to a directory structure (with VOBs etc), then you dont need to worry about daemon tools. You will need video/audio decoders though.

Thanks sub. It does play properly in VLC if I select the directory, so I assume files are OK. Logs are attached

It looks like its failing to find an appropriate set of audio/video decoders. Which decoders and navigator do you have selected on the DVD tab of the config app?
