Well i just got my PVR up and running and have a few questions now. I see it has an option to wake the computer to update the EPG which is nice, but can GBPVR also wake the PC from hibernation mode for a schleduled recording.?? Also any chance if it can wake PC up for a recording can it also put the PC back into hibernation mode after recording is over?

Also in the "system" section of GBPVR there are some options such as hibernate or standby. I tried clicking on hibernate and it seems to shut down the GBPVR program not sure or put the program itself into some sort of hibernation. Is this correct as i thought it would put the PC itself into hibernation but i guess not, just checking if this is correct.

Also in the main menu when i click on the setting button nothing happens? I would think that there is supposed to be some setting that can be adjusted?

I also remember reading somewere but cant find it were in live TV mode there is a way to set GBPVR so you can surf the channels more quickly because it temporly stops recording to hard drive while your surfing? How is that done, i cant find it. And once its in that mode how to switch back so it records live TV to hard drive.

One last question ,, i have comercial skip checked in the setup, just the one that came with GBPVR is that supposed to automaticly skip comercials when playing a recorded show? (it doesnt now) I can use the remote which seems to skip in 30 second bursts when i hit the >I button. Or do i need to get another plugin in program to have it automaticly skip commercials? If so which one? Big Grin

Yes, it also asks Windows to be awake at times recordings are scheduld for

It doesnt actively try to put the machine back to sleep, but most people have their PC set to auto sleep after X minutes of inactivity.

This is a bug in the current release's default setting file. Edit config.xml and set
<
SystemRestartIsAppOnly>false</SystemRestartIsAppOnly>

Also a known bug in the current release. Easily fixed though by creating an empty 'skin' subdirectory in the gbpvr directory.

Enable live preview mode in the config app for faster channel changes.

If you want it to do commercial detection, you need to have installed comskip.

Yes

No need, windows can do this. See the "power schemes" section here.

GBPVR will ask Windows to wake for EPG updates as well as recordings.. After the recording it will enter hibernation if you have Windows setup to enter it but this is completely up to Windows.

You will need to download comskip separately from here http://www.comskip.org/

You can sometimes beat him on short answers, but once you have to look in another window for the answer he'll beat you every time Big GrinBig Grin

I'll just add, that as a user of both standby and hibernate and gbpvr they work extremely well together if your hardware supports them properly.

Also if you are using MVP or PCH/NMT to view on a TV, they can wake the server up as well.

sweet, didn't know it worked with hibernate as well...Big Grin
[actually i think my old mb didn't support the wake timer in bios]
but just tried it and worked fine..Smile
is there any way to script other things to shutdown/close/start when going to/coming back from hibernate?
i've heard mention of a wake.cmd but can't find how to implement it..

Thanks everyone for the info.

One follow up question. I never really used hibernation before so unfamilar with how it works in windows XP Pro.
If i set windows to go to hibernate in say 1 hour BUT i set 3 hours worth of recording will GBPVR while recording make windows wait until after its done recording then shut down 1 hour after its done recording?

In other words does windows consider something is being done and doesnt start the clock countdown to hibernate until after GBPVR is done recording. I dont no if windows considers if it detects mouse movement or keystrokes before starting countdown to hibernate like a screen saver or it counts the program recording in GBPVR as activity and when GBPVR is done recording it starts to countdown to what ever someone has set the time for windows to go into hibernation mode. Smile

yea, it works like that, XP sees pvrx2 as 'doing something' while it records, then the countdown starts after it's done recording, and it tells windows to be awake for the next recording.. [whenever that is]

so just set in xp power options how long before you want it to go to sleep/hibernate, and gbpvr will make sure it knows when to wake up for recordings/epg updates..Big Grin

i would run a test recording just to make sure all the hardware is ok with everything..
[schedule a recording, send it to hib., see if it wakes and records and recording is ok]
