Hi,

Having trouble with my Grey's Anatomy season 2 DVDs, ripped to mkv containers. There is soundtrack sound and video, but no dialogue.

Running graphedit shows the following:

Mux: Haali
Audio Filter: AC3filter
Video Filter: Hauppauge NonCSS
Audio Renderer: Default
Video Renderer: VMR9 Custom

Playing from within graphedit exhibits the same symptoms as in GBPVR. Media Player Classic exhibits the same behavior as GBPVR, as you would expect.

VLC will play it when the audio stream is set to stereo or mono but not 5.1 or anything else. I am outputting sound via SB Live Digital SPDIF to an Onkyo 606 av receiver.

I've tried the PowerDVD 8 and Hauppauge nonCSS audio decoders, no luck so far.

Thanks for the help,
Torquewrench

Silly question, but has this been happening to any of your other 5.1 movies / recordings?
ie, is your center channel turned off / disconnected?

Not a silly question at all, in fact I wish it were that because it would be easier to fix!

It happens on one other ripped movie, Elf, but DVDs and other files will play fine, and I do hear sound from the center channel.

Try AC3filter, but turn off the AC3 passthrough (I assume it's AC3?)
then you can see what the input & output levels are - but can still have it output as 5.1 DD.
