Which video / audio decoder works best? Cyberlink, Hauppauge, ffmpeg and more?

I am wondering which setup works best for winXP and MVP.

Also, Is there a way to reduce bitrate? How?

Thanks

There's loads of posts on the forum covering this topic. Basically I think it's what works for you. I got perfect results with MPA and MPV codecs, but since my ATI card died and I replaced it with an Nvidia I'm back to square one trying them all out again (Nvidia pure video now working best, but not perfect)!

What are you looking to do by reducing bit rate? If you're streaming to another PC across a network you can use the web admin and vlc to stream at several different bit rates, but this won't help if you're only watching via the MVP.

If this is a digital recording, then the bit rate is decided by the broadcaster.

If its an analog recording, then you can choose the recording profile to change the bitrate.

Thanks,
My MVP is wired directly to a router and the PC is connected to an access point. Before I bite the bullet and run a cable across the house I want to figure out if there is a way to do this with simple software chages.

What I am seeing is MVP stutters from time to time. rebooting the router sometime works, rebooting the PC sometime works.

What I am trying to figure out is if the bitrate is too high or my decoders can't keep up?

I am assuming that change recording profiles means from high to mid or low?

Yes, but as mentioned this is only relevent to analog recordings.

From what I have read decoders don't have any effect on the MVP as it has hardware ones built into it.

There are many posts on the site where people had problems trying to stream video over a wireless network. The wireless connection is most likely the problem. You could try running a temporary patch cable to see if that cures it. Wireless signals get lots of interference that you don't notice while browsing the net, reading email, etc. because the router just sends a request to retransmit any bad blocks. Video streaming is sending too much real time data to wait for the retransmit, so you see stutters, etc. Sad

This seems to imply that at least part of the path is wireless:

It is wireless. Part way.

I think I will just wire it directly and then see if the problems goes away.

Is there a good software to monitor network trafic from the PC?

Also, Martin had something about doing a throughput test on the MVP using the mvpmc.bin. I have never understood how to do this.

If someone has done this and could point me to the instructions for idiot's section that would be great!
