Whoooooooooossshh!!

That gentlemen is the sound of all this code monkey stuff whizzing over my head. I just googled "SVN" to find out what the hell that is Big Grin

From my end, what I recently sent you guys I think is the basic look of the default theme, I'll keep tinkering away on that (as alway I'm very open to any suggestions).

I've installed VMware and that gives me an environment (a slightly frustrating one) to view the themes in 4x3 and 16x9. I've been reading up on square v's non square pixel aspect ratios and I think I'll resize the SD 4x3 stuff to 720x540 square 4x3 resolution. I also think doing a whole set of 16x9 xmls is beyond me to be honest, so we could shelve that idea for now.

I agree that maybe CS4 should just support PVRX2 and it's compatible plugins. Maybe concentrate on the combined installer with the default SD theme. Then add a new section to the wiki for theme downloads, adding any future HD 16x9 CS_blue theme there? I saw that both Mixman and mvallevand posted installer (thingamajigs :o), maybe these could be used to install any 16x9 formatting along with the graphics for the plugin?

Honestly I don't really understand what you guys are doing so take the above with a pinch of salt Big Grin The general gist is:
  • Combine skin and plugin
  • Default theme (SD graphics and formatting)
  • Only support PVRX2 and compatible plugins
  • Open to suggestions on how to implement HD WS graphics and formatting.

Ha ha, I've just re-read this post and it's about as useful as tits on a bull. I'm basically agreeing with what's already been said and asking how to tackle the HD stuff Big Grin

With the HD stuff Hairy, it will probably be offered as bits and pieces as any gets done on the wiki. Any installer method is fiine as well.

Pop culture reference aside.

What about this?

CommunitySkin3
  • Design is mature and therefore "locked", ie, no new radical changes
  • Standard definition version (4:3) by design
  • Wiki page defined well
  • Placement for 3rd party plugin downloads established.
  • Re-compile installer to combine Skinplugin and pull out themes.
  • Themes as external downloads
  • No real changes from exsisting.

CommunitySkin4 (rebirth of Community-WS)
  • Design is open to change
  • Higher resolution definition version (16:9) by design
  • Wiki page for Community-WS could be used
  • Placement for 3rd party plugin downloads as in CS3.
  • Installer to combine Skinplugin and one or two themes.
  • Themes as external downloads.
  • The future-proof design as HD becomes more common.
  • Use of higher resolution graphics preferred.

What does this mean? I've always liked the fact that the CS is one download, so in one shot you've got all the GB-PVR screens and all the supported plugins. Would this change that?

I think this is a great idea. Yet again you're all over this. From my perspective this is the solution to the HD WS stuff. It has room to develop with out bogging down the CS as it stands.

Two thumbs up and a standing salute Big Grin

A suggestion: Perhaps rename the two to Community Skin [SD] and Community Skin [HD] ?

I think you are right on this. We can keep an all-in-one thing going that gets updated every gbpvr so often, then any skin tweaks or new plugins can be ala-cart.
