I'm having an issue that I think is related. Basically, sometimes recordings keep growing to a ridiculous size. This has only happened since I upgraded to 1.3.7.

I use my system as a headless server only, so all I do on it is record.
The first time this happened was last week for Sarah Conner Chronicles. The file was 20GB (normally about 7GB) and unplayable (.ts). The last time it happened was Thursday and it created a 60 GB file that ran me out of disk space. At the time I was trying to get it to record another show, so I axed the file without much thought. I tried rolling back to the earlier version and somehow mucked that up, so I reinstalled 1.3.7 and figured I'd troubleshoot it.

I don't have any logs yet, but I'll monitor this thread and upload any pertinent info if this happens again.

BTW - this has only happened on my ATSC tuners so far, not on my pvr-150 (not that I record much on it, but there are a few shows... Wink

Changing to record the SD program for CBS seems to have eliminated the problem. Been about a week now, no hangs. Had got to hanging almost every show recorded on teh HD channel. Sure would like to go back to HD, but my wife says (and I agree), its better to have lower quality rather than hang (and miss lots of shows).

I'll monitor for fixes, and hope I can return to HD some day.

Hello,

I'm getting this too. Occasionally a file doesn't stop recording: the icon stays green but the file doesn't get any bigger. When I restart the recording service everything's fine.
When this happens, the last bit of my recording service native log says:

2008-12-03 12:05:00.109 VERBOSE BDARecorder::StopRecording()
2008-12-03 12:05:00.109 VERBOSE StopRecording()@1

and doesn't go on like other recordings do like this:
2008-12-03 00:25:00.193 VERBOSE BDARecorder::StopRecording()
2008-12-03 00:25:00.193 VERBOSE StopRecording()@1
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@2
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@3
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@4
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@5
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@6
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@7
2008-12-03 00:25:00.365 VERBOSE StopRecording()@8

Had the problem again. It appeared like the shows kept recording until I discovered it (24 hours later). The Mentalist was up to 57 GB and Fringe was at 4GB, although it hadn't recorded anything last night (another issue, I think due to spotty reception).

Anyway, the recording status had showed that they were both recording even though the shows had ended 24 hours previously.

I have attached the logs and have deleted the files in order to have space for other recordings Smile.

It would appear that perhaps we have several issues here:

1. I reported taht it can "hang" for days, thinking it is still recording, blocking all other recordings, but file size stops growing and file date stops increasing. Logs show nothing at hang time. Sometimes MS message that program failed.
2. Flyswatta indicates that the file size does appear to continue to grow, but again indicator is that recording is in progress. blocking other recordings.
3. Billranton indicates similar to mine (recording stops, file stops growing, but indicator shows recording), but he shows something in his log. (Bill: Does this happen at teh end of the show? Mine typically happens in the middle of the show).

Further on my issue, it is one channel (CBS), and it appears (cannot be positive, but likely) that it happens at a transition to/from commercial (probably when resolution is changing).

Bottom line, there may be several mechanisms leading to the system staying in "recording" mode, blocking new recordings from starting.

NEW INSIGHT:

I was looking at a thread (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?p=310675) on a playback issue, where the timeline would get messy at 4GB file size. You posted a patch to fix PLAYBACK.

Since I changed to SD on the offending channel, I have not had issues. However, I looked in my old recordings for one that hung. Most have been erased. However, I did find one that hung 31 minutes into the recording (and locked up recording capability for several days), and lo and behold, the file stopped at 9:31 and is, yup, 4GB long!

SO, perhaps my issue is somehow wrapped up in the 4GB problem? I wish I had more of the old hung recordings to verify. Some seems like they hung as early as 10 minutes, so maybe this one I found is just coincidence?

EDIT: Well, even if I did not have the old files, read back through this thread and realized that not all (but yes, some) of my files hung at 4GB. Oh well, I guess it ain't related.

Always at the end. Seems like everything's normal with the recording until StopRecording()@1, when it hangs.

I must add my voice to this problem. With no consistent cause that I am able to determine, many of my recordings simply continue to record from the same channel indefinitely at the end of the show. The only way to stop them is to restart the recording service; even issuing a "Cancel" has no effect. I do not (yet) have an HD tuner installed, so this is symptomatic on SD recordings.

If someone can reproduce this with 1.3.11 and post the logs, I'll take another look.
