[DEV] Skinplugin Resources

Looking at the TV Guides, I want to hack this down.

• TVGuides\7-channel TV Guide - Reflect

Need to investigate using this.

Combine the elements of both large print 5 channel guides into one.

We do not need guides for "Icon and Name" or "Icon and Number", ect.
All TV Guides will/must have all 4 options in the config.xml file.

I can't check now, but I don't know if that value is available in the Settings screen. If not, maybe we have the skinplugin alter that value for us as an option?

These are the currently possible <TVGuideChannelHeaderType> selections.

• 0 = icon + name
  
• 1 = number + name
  
• 2 = name
  
• 3 = app decides which to used based on the number of channels with icons available.
  
• 4 = is a new option which gives the icon+name combination.

Well you can definitely dump any of the "Reflect" ones I've done.

As far as resources go, it'd be my preference to treat the SD/HD releases with an etch-a-sketch feel (clean sheet). I'd still like the default install to have some graphical and formatting options, so users can still customize the look of the skin. Below is (so far) what I feel would be good:

Graphical:

• Light and dark version of default theme
  
• Glossy and matte feel to graphical elements
  

Formatting

• 4 different views for mainmenu - left, right, center, slick
  
• It would be great if the plugin was altered to enable layout selection for the 3 main plugins (vid,pic,music)
  
• A hi-visibility version of the default theme with 15/16pt text and tweaked formatting to accommodate (but this could also be a separate download?)
  

As for the resources currently, I would probably remove any graphics and formatting I've contributed to date and package up the rest in an installer and call it "Legacy Add-on"

I can't think of a reason to have different layouts of TV guides (apart from the number of channel rows).

I think they may have sprung up because, Number+Icon needs less room than say Icon+Name and you could extend the actual guide grid as a result. But I think we could find a compromise and stick with a single layout.

If by this you mean metada data on/off then yes.

This may require more work but would be a nice feature. Will have to consider if it would just require font size edits, a different baseskin.xml or something else.

I agree. That's the point of this thread and the wiki page, to wittle down the supplied resources to a bare minimum, focusing on quality and ideally "open-source friendlyness".

That was my thoughts, but since I haven't actuallly compared the variants, I didn't want to say drop them. Realistically, I can see just using the 3 types. Especially since Hairy canned his variants.
