CUDA and its use in GBPVR

Ive read a few things in relation to CUDA and Nvidia cards (because of news of similair ATI support) and wondered if ffmpeg or similair apps can make use of graphics cards processing power.

I use MVP's and would love to be able to use my gfx (8800gt) to transode avi or wmv to mpeg whilst not hogging my cpu during day to day use.

Ive read a little about ffmpeg being able to use CUDA functionality, but dont know how realistic it is?

don't hold your breath
i doubt there will be any free apps (worth considering like ffmpeg/x264) to support CUDA/Steam. seams like threading/latency hell not really worth the trouble.
where did you read that about "ffmpeg being able to use CUDA functionality"?

Id read a few people were going to try it, and have seen a few commercial apps that use it. On the other hand i have read that gfx chips dont lend themselves to video processing as well as other things (folding@home and password cracking etc)

Just thought i would enquire - seemed like an interesting proposition. Im finding my AMD 6000+ isnt really as fast as i would like converting MKV to mpeg to send to the MVP and hoped my gfx card could be used to boost this speed.
