Hi Guys,

A quick note as I'm not near the htpc right now. Last night I hooked my hvr-1600 backup and it runs fine with Hauppauge's WinTV.

With GBPVR I get a black screen with no audio, but if I hit record I then get video and audio and it does record and I can play it back.

Any ideas where to look when I get home?

Thanks!

I think this has something to do with the decoders uses for live tv mode. You could try using other decoders, someone else may have a setting you can try, you can also change to timeshift mode only, essencially this will start a temp recording while you watch live tv, this should fix the problem, If you want live preview mode someone else may have to chime in with a fix

You can find the setting for Live preview under the misc tab at the bottom right, uncheck the box, then make sure you have a temp directory set up and that under the directoy tab for live tv buffer

Why are the decoders for LiveTV and recording TV different? Are the decoder settings for Playback what affects LiveTV in timeshift mode? If so, what affects decoders when playing back recorded material?

Thanks Guys, it's nice to have a plan of attack before I start on this again tonight.

The interesting thing is that it worked before . . . I bought an HVR-1600 and installed it earlier but I had issues with the signal level so I removed card but I left the drivers installed. I complained to the cable company about my digital cable boxes being flaky when it rained out (they weren't, but I had to have something that included their equipment and signal level to complain about! Wink ) so they installed a new drop to my house and now with a 15db amplifier I can get a reliable lock on all my clear QAM channels with Hauppauge's WinTV.

When I was playing with it earlier I had mapped the one channel that worked and it played fine in GBPVR. Now that I have some signal I thought this would be a snap - just reinstall the card, do a scan and map the channels. Then I run into this peculiar problem!

The only thing that's changed since the last time I had the card installed is that for some reason my Windows Media Player got screwy and wouldn't play mp3 audio files and it was affecting GBPVR's ability to play mp3s too. I upgraded from Windows Media Player 9 to Media Player 11 and that problem was fixed . . . I wonder if it messed with something that's making GBPVR unahppy now?

We'll see - I'll post back after I get home and get some playing done later tonight.

Take Care,

Steve

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Hi Guys,

OK, checked the threads soccerdad pointed me to and sure enough, I found the:

<BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnLivePreview>false</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnLivePreview>

was in my config. I changed it to true and now I have video and audio! THANKS!!!

I found the video/audio playback was choppy though. I switched from the MKV/MKA to the Intervideo Hauppauge noncss mpeg video decoder and I think it fixed the video. Interestingly enough the Intervideo nonccs audio decoder would work in analog but not digital. I switched it to the generic mpeg audio decoder and it seems to have fixed the audio.

The GBPVR scan seems to have picked up all my clear qam channels except one, Flix is on 589.250 mhz according to my cable box's diagnostic screen. I believe that's channel 85? Anyway to add that in manually?

So far so good though, it seems I've finally got my HVR-1600 happy!

Can you post the logs showing the scan?
