that's what HIP is for...[HID Interface Programmer-HIP]
it should be able to program all the keys on a hid device...tho it can get kinda confusing..Smile

i also have a MCE style keyboard with all MCE remote keys on it, and most seem to work without anything special..[pause,both skips, etc] just not the tvguide/recordings buttons..

i would love to find the HID specs somewhere to see what's going on with these things...

From what I can tell, there are 2 types of HID devices. One is just plain HID. The other (what I have) also is recognized as a keyboard and a mouse. Because of this, the programs like HIP and Eventghost can't intercept the codes so they do not work. I would love to be wrong though. I have tried with both HIP and Eventghost with no love, but as you say, they are confusing. Instead of seeing the remote signals, the key presses move the select boxes, exit, etc because they are still funtioning as keyboard or mouse signals.

Ive been reading this thread with interest (saved doing any work on a horrible monday morning!) as I have the gigabyte 780g. I got so annoyed with playing around with ATI drivers that I ended up removing CCC and just playing with powerstripe - but I think I'll try 8.11 later. Oddly I can never get 1080p@50 out of CCC cause I think my Phillips TV is stupid - but when I get powerstripe to do it, it plays very nicely. 1080p60 is useless in the UK which CCC will let me have...
Does anyone have a good solution for H264 channel playback? I've tried loads and nothing is really good enough. PDVD7 or 8 codecs give a small stutter every now and then which CoreAVC does not (it is perfectly smooth) but the latter will not skip/FF/RW at all. Even pausing freezes and causes massive greif to keep going. It's unusable for the wife... PDVD7/8 doesn't have that problem, pauses/skips perfectly but I can not get video/audio in sync with the H264/AC3 channels in the UK. Again CoreAVC is perfect here. So currently I have CoreAVC/AC3Filter which plays live TV and recordings perfectly as long as you dont ever want to pause or skip in any direction, as the moment you do, you're stuffed. Oddly CoreAVC skips perfectly when using Whurlston's bluray plug in, it's just within GBPRV playback it does not. Which makes me think it's not CoreAVC that's causing the problem at all....

I'm not sure what the pause rew/ff issue is with CoreAVC. Perhaps it's a mux or some way recordings are being made, maybe sub has more insight. Does the rew/ff happen on UK recorded programming only or have you tried downloaded h.264 files from the Internet to check to see if those are doing it too?

Reason I mention this is that my 780g Asus board running XP and gb client work fine. I use MPV on my windows Vista server (gigabyte 780g) and it does HA on h.264 and has no problem with ff/rew either.

I've not tried downloading anything off the net - it's odd that UK recordings dont ff/rw but bluray disks do, so I'll give it a try. Can you recomend any places to download content? I know Pob has the same ff/rw issues as me but also concluded that from a watchable point of view CoreAVC was better with UK HD channels than other HW accel codecs.

Bittorrent, for some reason there's lots of blu ray movies there, recent ones too CoolRolleyes:p

Usually .mkv format.

I've got some .mov and .wmv HD movie trailers that ff/rw/pause no problems, but I cant tell if they're H264 as the wife is recording something at the mo and I'm too scared to poke about in case I break it... I'll have a look tomorrow!

SNIP

Just wanted to chip in here - for me the ff/rw glitches with CoreAVC only happen on the UK HD channels, which are H264 1080i in an MPEG container.
MKV files do not have the issue. However because MKV files are re-encoded HD video, compressed, lower bitrate, progressive - I am not sure this means much. There is no question that playing the UK HD sources requires a lot of grunch; 1-hour of video is about 8Gb, compared to a typical MKV 1.1Gb for an hour. Playing a 720p MKV uses 15-20% CPU, compared to 50-70% for HD TV.
What is odd though is the report from BigMoose that blueray disks play without problems. Not sure but I thought these are 1080p, which in theory should be even harder to decode?
Anyway, just wanted to clarify that I have never been unable to get hardware acceleration of H264 on my XP PC - the problem is getting acceptable quality on our HD TV channels, in particular the deinterlacing. MPC-HC or Cyberlink or Arcsoft decoders can all do hardware decoding of MKV files, it's a doddle, but cannot do 1080i well. It is for this reason only that I, for one, always go back to CoreAVC, and just live with it's little quirks! The latest version of CoreAVC fixed some things, like hardware deinterlacing - but broke other things; if hard deinterlace using NV12 output is used, then MKV files don't play correctly - looks a bit like tearing, only worse! Also for some reason playing any MKV causes PVRX2 to loose focus, so remote stops working. This is a strange one, as running PVRX2 in a window shows that there is no pop-up, tray icon, or app starting that could steal the focus:confused:
So now I am using the very ungraceful method of manually setting CoreAVC to NV12 hardware deinterlacing for HD TV, and changing it back to RGB32 (non-hardware acceleration) to play MKV's! I might try changing the decoder from within PVRX2 and use MPC-HC decoder for MKV's, and CoreAVC for HD-TV, but either way it means changing the decoder depending on the task...
It just goes to illustrate that there is no decoder that can do everything well. We are very lucky with GBPVR that we can select one decoder for SD, and another for H264. Now if we could just have two different choices for H264 decoder, depending if interlaced or progressive...

One Bluray disk that ff/rw/paused fine was 1080p - I was playing back @ 720p if that makes a difference, but actually I was testing at 1080p and it skipped about fine.
