Vidimport

I have a question about this app. I am getting an error that it could not find the export file. I thought I was running this correctly, but now I'm not so sure.

I had an external drive on my old server. The new server is internal, but I also connected the old one which has some old recordings. I wanted to add the old recordings to the new server via vidimport. I ran the app in the command line and it complained about that export file. Was there a step before this I was supposed to perform?

I looked around the wiki, but I'm still confused. I justs ran it vidimport <directory on the external drive of old recordings> that was it. Maybe I needed more switches or something? Help?

What is the specific message it is giving? It sounds like it can't find the GBPVR backup file - you can always turn reading that off as long as you know there wont be any dups

hey carpevideo do you think you could add some example batch files for people aswell its easier to change a few little things (ie:drive letter or folder name)to see what happens than try and write your own when you have no idea about batch files or how they work

vidImport.exe ‹top directory | file to be imported› [outfile] [imdb=on|off] [import=on|off] [xmlin=“gbpvr recordings export file|none”]

top directory = the directory you want scanned or the single file you want imported. Required.
outfile = name of the file you want the xml to be created in. Optional, defaults to videos.xml.
imdb=on|off = do you want imdb lookups on files with no metadata. Optional, defaults to on.
xmlin= vidImport will automatically read in the recordings-dump.xml file found in the GBPVR install directory. If you want vidImport to read a different gbpvr export file specify it here or specify “none” if you want vidImport to ignore that file. vidImport will ignore any files that are in the dump avoiding duplicate recordings in the database. Optional, defaults to (GBPVR install dir)\recordings-dump.xml.
import=on|off if import is set to on vidImport will as its final step run pvrx2.exe -import with the file it created causing an immediate import of all file descriptions to the gbpvr database (this can also be manually be done on the config.exe plugin page). This will cause the xml file that vidImport created to be deleted so run GBPVR to check the results. Optional, defaults to on.

showfile=“” = Allows you to specify a filename to read/write the showfile. Optional, defaults to “showfile.text in the vidimport directory”.
sprefix=“” = Text before the season #. Optional, defaults to “s”.
eprefix=“” = Text before the episode #. Optional, defaults to “.e”.
esuffix=“” = Text after the episode #. Optional, defaults to “.”.
sinepisode=on|off = Puts the show name in the episode title (technically the GBPVR subtitle) as well. Optional, defaults to off.[/SIZE]

This is the syntax - so if you wanted to create an xml import for "d:\videos" that does not read the gbpvr file and does not do the automated import the command line would be:

vidimport d:\videos outfile.xml import=off

if it wasn't finding the gbpvr backup and you wanted to point at it specifically

vidimport d:\videos xmlin=c:\programs\gbpvr\recording-dump.xml

vidImport d:\videos xmlin=none (this will skip reading gbpvr's recording dump file altogether - may create dups!!)

Generally I just drag and drop since if you do that it pretty much does the right thing, but if you give me a specific what if I can give a command line example.
