I tried everything. Firewall disabling, opening ports, VLC, WMP, etc. Nothing. Startups up the media player, then just says can't do it. Any advice?

Server has VLC installed. I tried live tv, a recorded dvr-ms file, and an .avi file. Are there any VLC configurations to be done?

what version of vlc are you using?

here's the error:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://192.168.1.121:7648'. Check the log for details

And then I can't find the logs on the client.

Version is 0.9.8a

The server has to have 0.8.x as the version... unless the 0.9.8a is the version you are trying to stream with.

I found reinstalling EWA (delete almost everything in /web and install) fixed this problem for me.
- Silent client PVR: HDPlex HS.1 aluminium fanless case / Thin-ITX ASRock H81TM-ITX motherboard / Intel Celeron 1850T CPU / 4GB RAM / 120GB SSD / TBS6982 DBS-S2 [SIZE=1]dual-tuner card / Win10+nPVR+Plex Media Player feeding LG OLED55B6V + Anthem MRX510 AV Receiver / PMC GB1 / B&W / REL speakers.
- Noisy NAS: Xeon / Intel mobo / 16GB RAM / FreeNAS + Ubuntu VMs on VMware ESXi + 12TB RAID[/SIZE] running Plex Media Server

perhaps updating to the latest EWA version might do it? Mine is like 1 or two out from the latest. It has guide2, so I don't know when that came out.

Wow, got it working with the .8 version! That is cool. I did a reinstall and upgrade to the latest version of EWA, but that alone wasn't doing it for me so I had to downgrade VLC. That did it. Thanks for the great support

Just an update....I did a bunch of research and still at this time VLC 9.x has bugs for H.264 transcoding (provides the best quility strea) so they are recommending sticking with the 8.6i version until it can be corrected in 9.x.

How about streaming WMP? I've never gotten that to work. Work is forcing me to uninstall VLC so I'm forced to use something of lesser quality. Sad
