hello - I am getting varying filesizes for my recordings ... What is the usual filesize for ATSC for an hour?

They do vary wildly. The size depends entirely on the bitrate the broadcaster is using.

It depends on the bitrate that the channel is using for the broadcast. If a channel is broadcasting at 12Mbps, the filesize will be smaller than one broadcasting at 15Mbps. Also, the bitrates are variable so that can account for different filesizes as well.

Most of the 1 hour programs I record in QAM are 8gb's in size as an average. Don't know if that would be the same as ATSC or not.

Mine seem to run a little less than 5 G/hr. That's my local PBS station at 720p, I believe. I use a Twinhan ATSC card for OTA capture.

It does vary by station, but my experience is approx. 4-5GB/hr for 720p broadcasts, and 6-8GB/hr for 1080i. standard def (480i) seems to be about 1 to 1.4GB per hour.
