I have a good picture for all channels but no sound.
I've tried setting audio decoder in config to: AC3Filter, MPEG, Cyberlink, Intervideo NonCSS & ffdshow.
Using Nova T 500 card (dvb-t) for Freeview NZ.
gbpvr v1.3.11
ffdshow tryouts r2577 (Dec 17 2008). It has AAC in the list of codecs. What else do I need to do?

Thanks,
Phil

use monogram aac decoder if you want to make sure it works
then once you get it going if you still want to play with ffdshow you can later

use the momogram aac decoder - the NZ format is HE-AAC, (high efficiency I think) and I'm not sure ffdshow supports it yet.

EDIT: Yeah, what Stu said. (and maybe I was wrong about ffdshow)
later you can add it to the list of supported aacLATM decoders in the config.

Thanks, monogram decoder worked.
Note (for other beginners) that to install I copied mmaacd.ax to c:\windows\system32 and ran "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mmaacd.ax" as admin.

I now have sound but it breaks up really badly. Is this my choice of codec or not grunty enough PC?
TV1 is worst, TV3 is best.

h.264=ffdshow (I also have cyberlink but it seems worse)
aac=monogram
he-aac=monogram

tv card=nova t 500
1MB ram
cpu=1.86ghz intel core 2 duo
video=nvidea geforce 7300gs 256mb

Thanks,
Phil

Unfortunately your videocard doesnt support H.264 hardware acceleration so you'll probably struggle with those specs. Some people have noted less CPU usage using the CoreAVC decoder, but I dont have a machine with the same specs as yours so cant be sure it'll help.

Thanks. Can you suggest a good video card?
No games, just movies and freeview.

Probably a nvidia 8500/8600 card. The newer ATI cards sound ok, but ATI are terrible for driver problems, so I dunnno...

If you have PCI-e, I got an 8600 GT, and it was qite cheap. The place I got mine from doesn't sell them anymore, but I found another site: ($109.50 + GST & Shipping)

PALIT 8600GT 512MB 128Bit HDTV, DVI, PCI-E
http://www.sigmapconline.co.nz/product_i...ts_id=5123

I can decode all of the H264 channels without problem on my 3Ghz Celeron, so the hardware acceleration must be working.

Thanks for the info. I finally got around to getting an asus en8400gs ($100) which the guy in the shop said would be ideal for watching hi def movies and freeview.
But I still have the same problem. When watching any channel on Freeview the picture is perfect but the sound breaks up a lot. I put the old video card back in and it seems exactly the same.

How do I confirm that the 8400gs can decode h.264?

Do I need to upgrade my sound card too?

Thanks,
Phil

After testing a bit more the picture quality is slightly better on the new card than the old one. When using the old video card the picture jumps a little. With the old card the cpu usage runs at 70 to 100% all the time, slightly less with the new card. Does that help diagnose?

Thanks,
Phil
