The Nova T 500 claims to have 'dual tuners' and has 2 antenna ports.
I've tried setting up the two tuners, but I'm not sure which of the two types to use.
In the list:

Hauppauge Nova-TD
Hauppauge Nova-TD Tuner #1
Hauppauge Nova-TD Tuner #2
Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T #1
Hauppauge WinTV MOD7700 DVB-T #2

I don't think I've tried all of these, but it takes so log to scan that I haven't bothered trying all the different combinations.

I'm also confused about the antennae ports, I only have one Ariel plugged into the first port, is there a port for each tuner or can both ports be used to give signal to both tuners?

Another problem is when I record a program and try to watch it at the same time, I get no sound. What's the problem?

Any of those should be card options ok. Just select one. I think behind the scenes they're all identical.

The missing audio is probably related to the audio decoder you're usinh.

Not sure about the antenna ports on this specific device.

Hi
newbie here
just got a Nova TD 500 dual tuner card
Seems to be good hardware (my last hauppauge has lasted over 8 years and is still going strong), but pretty useless software - although a manual might be of some help but Hauppauge do not seem to believe in those anymore.

Anyway a number of folk have suggested GBPVR so here I am.

Although the config programme recognises both the capture devices (see original post in this thread) I cannot get any TV channels. How do I search for the channels? I have set things up for my local transmitter, but I cannot find any search command.

The card works perfectly with WinTV so there is no problem with the hardware

Help, please.

Its easy when you know how!

OP it needs two aerials connected.

OldTimer - when you have created the source and saved it, you have to go back into that source and click the "map digital channels to EPG channels" This is the bit that scans the airwaves for channels. After a while you will than have to map the found channels to those you have setup in your EPG.

Thanks Martin
Tried that yesterday and all went well to start with. A possible 57 channels were reported and the mapping began. Nothing was found until channel 27 (if I remember correctly) then the monitor went blank. The monitor power lamp flashed on and off in a rather lazy and random fashion so I thought perhaps it was still searching and registering channels (in the dark!) but after about 30 minutes I gave up. Today I tried again but the results were similar to yesterday, only instead of the screen going blank, I got "configuration error" and the programme closed down.

I have no problem registering channels in WINTV7, but it is short of any decent recording and and DVD support. VideoReDo would partly answer that question, but I still have to go to a separate app to burn

I got out my free version of Nero Essentials that came with the ROM Drive and found that had a "PVR" function. Yippee, problem sorted! No Chance. After I had spent an age configuring it, I was told that it was only a demo version. Don't you just hate it when software companies do that to you? If they had said right at the beginning I might have been willing to consider them, but now they have lost a customer for all things Nero.
The point is, however, that Nero had no problem registering channels on both tuners.

Which brings me back to GBPVR. Even if I get it up and running, does it have the capability to wake up a sleeping PC, do the recording, then go back to sleep again?

But first things first. What am I missing that stops GBPVR registering the channels?

Assuming you have the most recent version of gbpvr? make sure you have all the latest patches from the survival guide as some of them are related to resolving scanning issues.

If you still have problems then posting a zipped up set of logs after the failing scan may well help sub spot a possible problem with your system.

Yes, gbpvr does support waking up the system to record and grab EPG's. It relies on Windows to do the hibernating. I use this and it works very reliably.

Thanks again, Martin.
I should have the latest version of GBPVR - I only downloaded it about 3 weeks ago.

Much as I admire the open source fraternity, circumstances mean I really do not have the time to indulge myself. About a month ago I spent 3 working weeks (5 days pw @ 10 hours per day) trying to get Ubuntu up and running. It took two weeks to discover that Grub is not very good at installing on machines with more than 1 HDD. Having finally stripped all drives bar one, I got it loaded then reconnected all the other drives. The third week was spent trying to get network printers and network sharing to work but I had to give up in the end. Even the various forum members admitted that it was still something of a "black art"

Whatever people say about Windows, and I for one would love to have a viable alternative, the fact remains that applications usually (in my case 99.9% of the time) work directly out of the box and when time is precious that is something of an advantage. So I think my own PVR/MCE will continue to be a hotch potch of individual programmes and VideoReDo and the inadequate Hauppauge software will have to be my short term solution for handling my Hauppauge files.

Maybe next year when things have matured a little further I will try again.

Cheers for now, and thanks again for your input and offer of support

Shame you can't get it working. I guess many folk here have tried the linux route and given up in frustration. Certainly, for me, GBPVR worked straight out of the box and I haven't looked back.
