Damaged recordings every 10 seconds

Does it skip when played with other apps: MPC, VLC, Nero Showtime, etc? IOW, is the error in the recorded file or in the playback?

The file does skip when played through anything, at the exact same spots, I am certain the files are getting damaged somehow

I had a problem with HD recordings on my HVR1600 (SD looked fine) I tracked it down to the write speed of my hard drive. When I put in a new harddrive a while back I had used the 40 wire ide cable that was already in my computer instead of a new (much faster) 80 wire cable. Long story short check that you are getting good write speed on your harddrive as the data rate that you need increases rapidly as the resolution of the recording goes up.

Good thing to check, I will look into that, but it works just fine other times, I would think a cable problem such as that would always have issue, thanks for the suggestion though I will take a look at it

OK, so I defragged, upped the recording service to force high priority and that seems to have gotten rid of my 10 second hitch, however the recordings are now unwatchable. The first 8 or so minutes of Lost are really hitchy, not really in any rythm, then it calms down and works fine. Supernatural was just recorded on Thursday, and the entire thing is ruined, it just hitches throughout. Logs are attached any insight would be very much appreciated.

I'm guessing you've got something else that is occurring on the machine that is causing this, otherwise we'd be seeing other reports of it. Hard to guess what it might be though.

Just a slight possibility -

I had problems where XP set my disk interface to PIO mode rather than any of the DMA modes and that dropped the write rate to a very low level and caused stuttering on recordings when playback was running at the same time. Advanced settings for the drive controller in device manager shows it, but it can be a pain fixing it.
