OK, so you can't use the analog side of this deivce with gbpvr nativley, and would have to use the graphrecorder I mentined above. (seems like a pain to set up)
The coax coming out of the back of your STB is an analog signal.

The cable coming into the STB is digital (ATSC) and this could be plugged into the capture device, and a digital capture source created.
You could try this to start with (take cable from the STB, and plug into the HVR850 and try to map digital channels as you did earlier.

I'm not really sure if the channels you receive are encrypted or not, but you will be ale to tell after scanning / mapping.

Unfortunately the digital side of this device only supports over-the-air ATSC, so you would have had to have it plugged into an antenna, not a cable system. Some of the other Hauppauge USB sticks, like the HVR-950Q, support the unencrypted digital cable channels, but not this HVR-850 device.

I watched the first 30 seconds. Assuming later in the video he says that it also supports clear QAM (unecrypted digital cable), then you probably need to add a section to the bda.ini file for you 850, add 'QAM' to the end of the card name in that section, and add the TUNING_SPECIAL=2 line (might need to check the 950Q definition to check), then try setting up a capture source that select this new '850 QAM' setting.

I watched about a minute of it and he does say he spoke to someone at Hauppauge and they told him it does support QAM. But doing a quick look at Hauppauge's website it doesn't mention anything about QAM for the 850, only the 950Q. I'm guessing the guy on video misunderstood and Sub's original thought that it only supported over the air is probably correct.

Yeah, I'd also looked at the Hauppauge website, and interpretted the specs as only over-the-air.
