I have been devloping a BBC iPlayer plugin for personal use for a few months and I am interested in gauging whether other people would use it. Wink

The plugin at the moment does the following:

- Allows searching of strings on the BBC IPlayer Website and retrieves the results
- You can select a show and download it from the iPlayer website
- Will take the resulting MP4 file and transcode it to mpg2 for use in GBPVR
- The recording will be added to the GBPVR database as a normal recording that can be played as normal

There are a few things that might put people off, recordings should be deleted after 30 days, as the plugin should not be used to avoid DRM.
The quality is OK but not as good as MPEG2 DVB due to the MP4's low bit rate.Smile

Just getting a feel for whether there is enough interest to make a released plugin.

I admit I'm on record as saying there's not much point as a good PVR basically duplicates an iplayer, but following a few missed recordings (my fault, not GBPVR) the WAF has taken a hit, so I'm all up for and iplayer plugin :o

does it need to transcode to meg2? can't gbpvr play mp4 with the right codecs?

It probably could play it straight up, however the MP4 codecs do not seem to allow it to seek properly. For this reason i transcode it, also it allows me to play it on my MVP.

There does seem to be some interest so I guess I need to look at getting access to the Wiki for installation instructions.

If it works well on the MVP. I'd be interested. Smile

Will do, it will just be a beta test release first to get all the bugs out Wink

It will take me a little while to get the Wiki updated and the release done.

Yes, i'd be interested.
I am working on something similar myself. Mine is not so much a plugin, but an automated downloader to get radio programs that are not put up as podcasts by the BBC, and drop them into the music library as mp3 files. ( and of course delete them after a week ;-) )

I think the iPlayer site checks the location of the User, however it might be worth a try. Of course you would have to have a TV licence Wink
