I had made a Outlook Plugin in the past that was not that successful. I am considering another wack at it however I need to learn from my mistakes.

What would people like to see? Will people use it? I figure one of the things that caused problems was outlook. This is what I am thinking.

It would be nice to have a contact/calendar plugin. Having its own database (a lesson learned). I can always write a hook to import from outlook.

Maybe layed out like xrecord.

Contacts
Appointments
Schedule Appt

On the right.

You can create reoccuring appointments (weekly, monthly, yearly) or one shot recordings.

When a appt is fired it will appear in the Appointments category. If it is over so many days old it will be automatically dismissed. Otherwise the user can dismiss it.

You will be able to create appointments and contacts in the app itself.

A Panel will be created to show the upcomming appointments (birthdays and anniversarys) on the main screen.

2 command line apps will be built. One will import from outlook the other will determine what appt have been expired and which ones are now pending.

What else am I missing.

could the firering appointments overlay tv/video/dvd? this would be cool. must be editable, but would be a nice feature.

to schedule appointments and create contacts we need a really good onscreen-keyboard with sms-style text-entry (like myvideos does). i know, the skin from this keyboard is outsourced, maybe reven can give us the keyboard-code?

this could be used for xrecord, xguide and so on, too...

AFAK this is not possible at the moment, and i think this the main reason that such a plugin might not be that successfull.

to be honest: i don't really need an instant messenger, email or PIM plugin which allows me to write msgs, emails or appointments on my tv (well, thats me, i can only speak for myself of course).

what i would like are plugins which just _notfy_ me with a 'popup' in live tv that someone is on ICQ, i have new mails or an appointment is comming up and i should stop wasting my time watching tv, get up and finally _do_ something *g*

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I dont think sub has added the hook for overlaying tv/video/dvd since the caller id plugin needed that too.

I think reven gave me the keyboard code at one point. Cant find it now. Do people like that layout better than the qwerty keyboard?

ah, i see what you mean...well, i don't think anybody uses the navigation-keys plus the ok-key on th remote to enter text. one would use the number keys or a keyboard. in my opinion the layout is nice artwork, nothing more....i must have a look at the skin, maybe the layout can be changed from "abcd..." to "qwerty".

ok, when there is no overlay-option a panel is a must. would be a nice feature for birthdays, i would like to use it!

I am playing with flipping to a ABC keyboard as an optional mode (qwerty will also be there ) with xrecord, xsearch.

I think the original PIM was too complicated.
