I'm it relates to fact that PVRx2 is running as a Local System service. The second PVRx2 I get is stuck in the interactive desktop. I'm guessing it is some failed attempted to restart PVRx2 because of permissions.

Will probably need to re-read all your posts again but it seems like it doesn't make sense for the plugin to launch (restart?) pvrx2 after applying the changes as it's already running as an MVP server. Is that a correct assumption?

That is correct. I haven't made that many comments since I stopped using CS4, but I think you might have problems with this update process on Vista too, if you assume that PVRx2 can write to the "Program Files" directory.

Actually it's a helper exe (launched by the plugin/pvrx2) that would write to the gbpvr program files area. Will keep permissions and Vista in mind...
