If they could handle all of our mpeg .ts files, it would be really cool. I wonder how we can lobby them?

Dont worry, .ts playback is important to them. They're in the business of recording TV. They'll need good .ts playback.

This is way to obvious a question, but I'll ask it. Are you planning on supporting it?

Do you imagine it will be a lot of work?

Yes, one way or another we'll get a GB-PVR client on it. I'm hoping Martin will port mvpmcx2 to it, with a bit of help from me. If for any reason he's not keen on doing it though, then I'm sure I'll be able come up with something.

My "new toys" piggy-bank may be well and truly empty but if the MVP-HD really does hit the market at around 100 Euros then I may just have to find the money somewhere.

If for no other reason than it would remove the mpeg-only aspect of the current MVP.

Interesting!

I'll do what I can, I doubt if it's a port though, that flash demo looked a lot like mrua code which means another rewrite.

I just got a popcorn hour ased upon the work sub and martin have done. So my question is am I in danger of this not working sometime in the near future? Also I only bought one to do so testing but was looking to get others if a like it. So is the popcorn still a good option going forward?

The popcorn hour is still a good choice. This is new Hauppauge device is probably still six months away, and will probably take more time after that to get up to the level of the popcorn hour. We know very little about the Hauppauge device at this stage.

I actually posted about it on the NMT forums and Werner a Syabas rep did take the time to provide comments (I do like the fact that they are open to talk like this) http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=18415

It probably is a Sigma chip but I have to agree with sub that we don't know a lot yet. Hauppauge announced the HD PVR at last year's CeBIT and it took a bit of time to stabilize, I figure this will be the same. There isn't even a mention of mkv or dvd playback which concerns me bit, after all the MediaMVP eventually was good hardware but the software .... WinTV 7 is the first Hauppauge software that I could use.

There as already been way too much speculation based on what a sales guy said at a trade show. If the release date is a few months away, then this was probably only the first or second day the guy has seen the device, and he's probably not aware of the exact capabilities yet. They're probably just sticking to playing the couple of sample video files the technical team provided.

We'll just have to wait until we see what the final reported specifications are before we know for sure. It'll be a very capable device though.
