Having just moved from Windows MCE, one thing that I used constantly was the 'original air date' in the EPG. This quickly told me if the program was new or a repeat (as they often are in the UK!). Although the MC2XML EPG grabber works fine, this information appears to be missing so I have no idea if something is new or not. Anybody know a workaround or another EPG source that provides this?

I'd be interested to hear about this. I didn't think anything like this was available for UK programming from any source.

No being from the UK i am not sure if it will work, but have a look at -a option for mc2xml.

It will append all new programs with a * in the epg so you know if it is new and if it doesnt have one its a repeat.

This works for me, but i am in the US and am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but i think it is something close

See the website for instructions

Hmm, that would be enough, but does not seem to work unfortunately.

That's actually not the case...

Using Birtles Radio Times, you can configure their grabber to give new show indicators. You can tell it to set the Premiere tag as 'Not a Repeat' or something like that.

There's good news and bad news. Big Grin

I don't use mc2xml but just had a quick play. I grabbed the Freeview listings for my area and the good news is the <previously-shown start> elements are present in the xmltv.xml file it generated, so imagn suggestion should help. It seems it's just a case that GB-PVR doesn't process this data.

The bad news is that it's not consistent. Episodes of 'Heroes', for example, are first aired on BBC2 on Monday nights and the same episode repeated a week later. Unfortunately none of the episodes listed in the xmltv.xml file generated by mc2xml have the <previously-shown start> data.

Just spotted your comment above before I posted...

Are you sure this isn't working for any of the programmes or is it just as a result of the inconsistency I explained above?

Cheers,
Brian

If mc2xml will work for UK at all, it does not mean New Show Indicators are present in the data, so that mc2xml can interpret and then add an asterisk.

UltraXMLTV is also dependant on that data to get New Show detection. But I would be interested in getting the locale information so that I may simulate a download from the UK

You may wish to use the Birtles/Radio Times grabber

Edit: I've just looked into using mc2xml for the UK and I can't see new show indicator ( *) for anything that should definitely be new.

I know that I'm currently working on getting New Show Indicators working with UltraXMLTV so you might want to keep your ear to the railroad...

But it relies on that information being available from the Radio Times, which when I last tried it wasn't present.

It's there for some programmes but is also inconsistent (open your data.xml file and do a search for <previously-shown/>).

I'd forgotten Birtles grabber could do this but I think I disabled the option because the source wasn't reliable.

@zehd - I just grabbed my area listing with mc2xml again but using -a and can confirm there isn't a single programme marked with " *". Possibly a bug in the current version of mc2xml.

@daveangel - if you like the way mc2xml works for you then it may be worth contacting the author about the -a option.
