If it is a thorough one then it should be added to the wiki because I think it is something that many users have considered at one time or another. I know I'd like to do that to clear out the extra no longer used stuff but do not want to take a chance of going backwards instead.

I'm going to go drastic. I'm going to uninstall the entire program, delete all program folders, and reinstall.
Should be fun  Since I've been running GBPVR for over a year, there is probably some stuff in there that should be cleared out anyway.

The obvious saving the db and config.xml are only the first step. sub generally thinks in terms of the base program and not all the plug-ins etc you use. (Of course, he is aware of them because he implements features to make them possible.) I know I've got a lot of unused directories related to various generations of skins. Of course you could rename the GBPVR directory or copy it and its subdirectories to another directory so you can have something to refer back to (customized skins, bat files you used, etc) while you bring up the clean copy. I did something like this a long time ago when I went and did a complete reinstall of Windows.

I always copy the directory before a reinstall. In fact, I've even moved the whole directory to a brand new computer when I moved one of my capture cards downstairs. I placed the old directory into the new computer that I put the old capture card in, then installed GBPvr. After installing the capture drivers in the new computer, everything just worked. No configuring at all. Comskip, EPG, channels setup - everything.
I LOVE software you can do that with.

My setup uses the HDHomeRun and I use a NMT Popcorn Hour for viewing. My setup is relatively simple compared to most. I wanted to make sure everything was clean so I didn't keep anything. Of course I backed up the entire gbpvr directory just in case
Here is what I did quick and dirty: 1. Downloaded gbpvr10311.msi 2. Backed up channel icons directory, bda.ini, and postprocessing.bat 3. Backed up mvpmc folder - My share is in the gbpvr directory so I wanted to make a copy. I don't want to go through that again Make sure you get share info for recreation as well. 4. Removed all shares pointing to gbpvr/mvpmc directories 5. Go to Start - Run - type appwiz.cpl - Remove GBPVR 6. Reboot 7. Rename the devnz folder in "C:\Program Files" or move it 8. Go to Start - Run - type appwiz.cpl - choose A:/CDROM (poor naming) - click browse - navigate to gbpvr10311.msi 9. After installation, config.exe will open. a. choose a skin b. create directories (video, music, pictures, tv, etc.) 10. Update bda.ini (either overwrite or copy/paste HDHR information) 11. Copy over postprocessing.bat, MVPMC folder, and Channel Icons Directory 12. Reshare MVPMC folder 13. Install all other plugins (MovieWiz, Mayhem3 skin, etc.) 14. Create Capture Sources (EPG, Channel Mapping, etc.) 15. Test I have tested recording and scheduling. Now I have to make sure the PCH is working. The only strange thing that I noticed is when I log onto the server there are 2 GBPVR systray icons  They were both green during recordings too. I also had to do the media search in MovieWiz. |
