Arcsoft H264 decoder - no video?

Trying to use the Arcsoft H264 decoder in gpbvr. It shows up as an option in the advanced tab and I can choose it and set parameters. But on playback there is no video - just audio.

Is this a supported codec for H264 content?

I have been using PDVD8 H264 decoder which works okay but I am unable to turn of HW acceleration (XP - the DXVA tab) - well whether I turn it on or off HW acceleration is always on and I need it off for SD content

what do you mean you need it off for sd content?

you cold use ffdshow beta6....or mpchc and just check the ffmpeg-h264..[uncheck dxva h264]
no hard ware accell...
but telling hd and sd apart will be tricky in gb..it'll always use same codec for both...

but ffdshow has 'profiles' that can prevent it's load if dimensions are higher than a certain number..[turning off hd processing]
so you could certainly use that for sd...

The arcsoft H.264 decoder works for me, but there are few versions of it, so cant be 100 sure.

Out of interest what version are you using?

I also saw another post a way back that said Arcsoft used to work for them but was broken with the latest build of dbpvr but there was no apparent resolution to the issue

There was a problem like this a while back. Make sure you've got the patches in the survival guide installed and you should be alright.

Thanks. My version of the DLL is a little earlier but once I installed the patch Arcsoft seemed to work as a decoder for H264 HD content. Alas, didn't solve the problem.

1. For some reason the properties tab of the decoder don't stick - so if I turn on/off acceleration or try to turn on DXVA 1.0 or DXVA 2.0, the values don't stick across the running of the config application

2. HW acceleration appears to be on all the time which is fine as I noted for HD content but because of some (likely) strange video driver issues, when trying to play SD content, all I can see is flashes of the video inbetween lots of pixelated green screen

Only other thing to try now is an earlier release of the Catalyst drivers

Because playing SD content (576p) the screen just displays flashes of video between lots of pixelated green screen. Proved that it's an acceleration issue by using PDVD8. Play SD content with HW acceleration turned on - flashes as above and CPU running 10-15%. Turn off HW acceleration - picture is fine but CPU is now 60% (which is okay for a Sempron 2600)

Worth a try I guess. Annoying thing is, I need to go into config depending on whether or not I am watching SD or HD content. Would be good if H264 codec worked for SD content also

The old version of arcsoft I had also displayed no video. I downloaded and installed the latest trial version and video now works for H.264.

Well I think my situation is slightly different. I have video now after applying the patches sub recommended and this is for an older version of Arcost TMT. It's just that the settings of the decoder don't appear to work. For example there is a DXVA 1.0 and DXVA 2.0 setting on the tab of the decoder but no matter what I set them to (on or off), HW acceleration appears to be on all the time.

Some decoders store there settings (in the registry) on a per-application basis, so when you change the settings in the config app, its only updating the decoder settings for when that decoder is used in config.exe. I'm not sure if the ArcSoft decoder is one of those, but if you're not seeing any difference, then that is probably the case.
