Are there any plugins or plans to provide plugins for external video sites like CNN, CBS, Hulu, etc. like Boxee does?

If not, is there an easy external app that we could launch? i haven't been on lately and don't know if there's any beta efforts in this area..

Thank you,

There is no plans to do that in GB-PVR. I dont know what other developers have planned for plugins though.

You could check this out http://zeevee.com/zinc/download-zinc

I am using the stand alone zinc application and using it as a custom task in the plugins. I tried the firefox plugin they have too, but not everything works well IMO. I just cant get remote control functions in Zinc, only keyboard and mouse, thinking because it is a web player and I dont know how to make a Hauppauge 45 button remote work with IE or Firefox.

It also has netflix player, but I dont like it as much as Whurlstons plugin. His has more UI.

Yeah, I figured there was no native support, but people might be using custom tasks like this. I used to have Veoh, but it was always losing focus with the remote so I gave up on it.

If anyone has more suggestions like this, that would be great.

Umm... Zinc looks promising. I'm going to map my HIP to it when I get home tonight, and check the WAF. Looks AWESOME!

I would be interested to hear if you get Zinc to run with a remote, and how you did it.

I just installed Zinc beta 3 and my MS remote works with everything except had
to use mouse on some links to make full screen or HD. I didn't run it through GBPVR.
Zinc is alot better than I thought it would...no problems... I need to figure out how
to run as a custom task.

Yeah, MCE remote should "mostly" work as I read. I have a Hauppauge 45 button for my HVR-1600 (non-MCE). I doubt I can do anything other than with the keyboard/mouse. That's a shame.

wow, Zinc is awesome. Not quite as good as a dedicated GB-PVR plugin, but WAY better than what I had been doing (launching IE to hulu as a custom task). They've made the remote work as well as possible; on Hulu only Pause/Play works, but normally the remote doesn't work at all on Hulu. Zinc has full remote support on some sites, and automatically switches the video to full screen on some sites as well (not hulu though.. still need a mouse for Hulu, but lucky for me my remote has mouse control).

The only problem I've run into so far is that every time I back out of a list of shows after watching one, it gives me the 'Please Wait' message with the spinner, and finally says "unable to retrieve data in a reasonable time' (or something to that effect). But then I can just select 'Zv Presents' from the menu on the left, and I can continue as normal... I guess that's what they mean about Beta.

My kids are watching SpongeBob Squarepants as I type... they haven't seen SpongeBob since I dropped DirecTV last year.

btw, I have an MCE remote, ymmv with another sort of remote.

I too have an hvr1600 with a hauppauge remote. This is how I got the remote to somewhat work with zinc. Still working on full screen, fastfwd, rewind.

1. In c:\windows\irremote.ini search for [Applications]. At the bottom of that section add:

Zinc=

2. Scroll to the bottom of the file and add the following:

[Zinc]
NAVDOWN={down}
NAVUP={up}
NAVRIGHT={right}
NAVLEFT={left}
SKIPFWD={right}
SKIPREV={left}
FASTFWD={right}
REWIND={left}
OK={enter}
PAUSE={space}
PLAY={enter}
BACK={Back}
STOP={alt}{f4}
MENU={tab}

Right now only navigation and ok work. If you figure out the other functions please post back.
