Is there a title or sub title leaned from the xmltv that could be used to distinguish which episode it scheduled? Using that and keeping track of what is in the recordings directory would permit the option of recording all episodes of a show, while avoiding duplicates. I'm not sure, but I think Tivo has something like this.

You can either use RecTracker or CDK Scheduler to accomplish this. Check the Wiki site for more info.

Problem with using something like that, is that it might not work on upgrades.

I would much prefer an internal GBPVR option for things like this.

The Video Archive plug-in also provides a very simple form of this is you zap2it for your listing or some other source that provides a uniqueID for each show. All of these should work through GBPVR upgrades. They are using information from the electronic program guide, which is generated from a source outside of GBPVR anyways. Something built-in would end up using the same data so the results should be the same either way.

Jeff:

Looking at the file that XMLTV pulls from zap2it, it seems as though there are unique episode IDs, so that should work with VA, right? I can't remember if you said it purges after a successful record of the episode and purges the future 'repeats' or if has to run in postprocessing.bat or postupdateepg.bat, I'm going to check WIKI now.

Yes, if there is unique ID info in the GBPVR database it should work regardless of the source. You do not need to update any of the .bat files. The list of unique IDs come from the video archive database, which in turn pulls the information from the GBPVR database. For new recordings the information will be in the database shortly after recording starts.

I use CDK to ensure no dups,

However, Jeff, to create a unique id of a show, if absent, you might want to do perform an md5 cheksum, based on title, sub title, and description.

The reason I decided to do unique ID only is that I have noticed that for many of the shows I record, esp. for my kids (e.g. Dora the Explorer) they often use the same title, sub-title and description when they don't provide any episode specific description. That is fine for me becuase I use Zap2It which has unique IDs. If I was just going off of the combination of on title, sub title, and description I would end up purging all of these by mistake. I figured it was better to record duplicsates than to miss recording unique episodes.

What we do is require that a subtitle or description exists before we purge. We do not purge off title only.

That way it will work for the other 95% whom live abroad. I guess we would live aboad to them as well....
