I'm new to the CS4 skin, but am very impressed by it and would like to keep using it. Not sure if the slow response in the navigation will be tolerated for long by the wife. I get this lag on all 3 of my MVPs, and to some extent on my PC. I also get the outline flicker in lists (like the Videos folder) on our smaller/older CRT TVs, but not on our newest one (newest = 1996 P/M 32" - yep, that's new in this house! ;-)). As you may have guess I'm using the SD version.

I was confused on this as well at first. I thought it was one single setting, but there are a number of settings under the 'graphics' elements that can be set to glossy, matte or transparant. Look for example to element 'Normal Button'
The matte setting reduces the flicker on MVP.

Wow, that's painful in combination with the slow response of the skin, even on the PC. Guess I'll see if I can figure out the system and do it directly in the XML file. From reading the thread I thought this would help to speed-up the slow response, but I'll settle for fixing the flicker. One battle at time!

btw: the _taskimage for Aliberts' TV Recordings plugin is still not present. I made a copy of recordings.png.

Hairy, what EditableSkinItems have these "matte" options. Might be nice to include a "matte" theme - would help all the MVP users.

TextBackgrounds

For both SD+WS have the "matte" graphical option.
