I have done a few recordings now with GBPVR and for some reason I can't watch what I am recording while it's recording (I get a black screen, but I do get sound) But I am able to watch the recording after its done.

I have a Hauppauge 1600 with the latest version of GBPVR, I can upload logs if necessary.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Now this is where it gets stranger, I've done nothing to the config, or the rest of the computer except turn it off and on over night and watch TV today, but now I can't see what I am recording, or see the recording after it's done. Here is a time line so it's clear:

Last night:
I recorded analog at 9pm while watching live TV on digital tuner - can't see while it's recording, could see after it was done.

Made no changes. Just tuned it off overnight, turned it on this morning and watched live TV all day.

Tonight:
recorded digital at 8pm - couldn't see it during or after it was done.
9pm recorded one digital, one analog at the same time - can see the analog, can't see the digital while it's recording.

I am recording two things at this moment. Can I go and grab and zip the files and send them to you while I am recording? Or will I need to wait till it's done? If I need to wait, I won't be able to send them till after 10pm pst, which is about 30 minutes away.

Here are the logs.

I am currently experimenting with different codecs in hope that I'll be able to watch the two shows I just recorded which now have a black screen.

Update: I was able to watch the shows in win media classic, so that gave me hope! I then played with codecs till I got 'Inter video Non CSS video decoder' (I think that's what it's called - old TV - hard to read print in config panel) to work and play the shows properly. I am now going to run a quick test and see if I can watch while recording. I will report when done.

I think its to do with the video decoder that ends up getting used. You've got it configured to use the ffdshow video decoder, but that decoder isnt connecting (probably due to MPEG2 not being enabled in its settings) so it ends up using the Intervideo decoder.

Try a different decoder.

ahh, set the mpeg2 decoder in ffdshow to 'libmpeg2' instead of 'libavcodec' as lobavcodec will only show black screen in livetv...[tho recordings are ok]

Update: It's getting worse. I am now unable to see any digital channels. WinTV has also stopped displaying digital channels. I have tried different antennas, reinstalled the wintv software. I did a rescan on the channels, and it found none. What the $%*(&@ and I doing wrong?!? It was working, and now it has just stopped.

I did a search of the forum, and found this post:

So I guess a warning to everyone considering buying a HVR-1600. Your digital tuner can stop finding channels for some unknown reason and the only way to fix it is an OS reinstall.

Dose anyone know how to fix this problem beside a reinstall of the OS? 'Cause it sure as heck looks like I am suffering from the same problem.

How do I do that?
