More of the same, yet different.

Last night I attempted to record two shows using the 1600 card. The analog tuner worked as it should and recorded and allowed me to view the recording, the digital tuner show caused GB to crash when I attempted to view the show while it was recording. Once the show was done recording, it still crashed GB when I attempted to watch it. However, windows Media Center, and Win media center classic played the file without a hitch.

I then recreated the problem this morning. Here is a time line
of what happened:

Set GBPVR to record ch 4.1 - GB crashed. I check to see what the tuner is doing, and it says it's still recording.

Then I reload GB and go to live tv and it claims that the only the digital tuner is recording, the analog tuner is not mentioned, I can't watch TV. What happened to my Analog tuner?

Then I go to TV guide - analog ch3, and it allows me to view the channel.

Record ch3, works great, rec and view while recording.

Check live tv, both tuners listed and in use.

Look in pending recordings, both rec shows listed.

Try to watch ch4.1 rec... and GB crashes again.

Made a log zip of PVRX2.exe-native.log and PVRX2.exe.log. I saved a copy of everything in the log dir, so if you need something else - let me know.

Just keep in mind that I did test this yesterday morning, both tuners recorded and allowed me to view the shows without a hitch. What changed?!?

Under the playback tab, using:
Vid renderer: EVR,
Mpeg video decoder: Intervideo Non CSS,
Everything else system default.

Try a different decoder. The Intervideo one can be problematic.

I originally went with Intervideo Noncss because none of the other decoders worked. Here is a chart, I went though and tested them all again. (1600 Card didn't die this time, yah!)

Mpeg2 playback: Video Decoder

Cyberlink Video USP Decoder
dig live: y
ana live: y
dig rec : y
ana rec : no - no video, ana rec

GFL Mpeg 1/2 decoder
dig live: no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana live: y
dig rec : no - no video, yes sound live or rec

ff show video decoder
dig live: no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana live: y
dig rec : no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana rec : y

Mpeg video decoder
dig live: no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana live: y
dig rec : no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana rec : y

Intervideo Video Decoder
dig live: no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana live: y
dig rec : no - no video, yes sound - live or rec
ana rec : y

Intervideo Non css Video Decoder
dig live: y
ana live: y
dig rec : y... but CRASHES SOFTWARE
ana rec : y

I am out of decoders, any recommendations?

Try MPV Decoder - it's widely used.

http://www.free-codecs.com/MPV_Decoder_download.htm

I use the one in the "Release" folder of the zip file (not sure what the "Release Unicode" version offers).

Copy the Mpeg2DecFilter.ax to your gbpvr install folder, open a command prompt and run...

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Mpeg2DecFilter.ax"

Cheers,
Brian

Just to add to your information, I strongly suspect that many of your decoders are not working for some reason, so you're failing back to the whichever decoder is system default. Hence why you get so many with exactly the same results.

I've always had good results with the Cyberlink PDVD Decoder (I'm not familiar with the Cyberlink USP decoder you mention). If you have a CD with PowerDVD on it (they used to come with almost every DVD drive, though these days more seem to come with Nero 8 SE), I recommend installing it.

bgowland - i installed this and am still getting an issue where there is no audio played with the ts files.

I know audio has been recorded b/c i can play it using Media player classic with the ffdshow (a/v) codec. not only does media player play the audio, it also tells my receivier that the stream is dolby digital.

The one thing that I noticed after installation was that this MVP decoder option does not show up in the audio option of the playback tab. I see it as an option in the video section but not in the audio section.

LiveTV (audio) on the digital channels don't play either, but video plays perfectly.

Any other others? All my other options are set to system default, execpt h.264 is set to ffdshow, ac3 decoder is set to ac3filter, and audio decoder is set to Mpeg2 audio.

Thanks in advance.

Set your audio decoder to AC3 Filter or ffdshow. Also, you might try changing your AC3 decoder to ffdshow.
