I am using AverMedia Hybrid Volar Max H826 (QAM) with gbpvr 1.3.11 on XP Pro Service Pack 3, AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2G ram and Radeon HD3450 video card. The tuner was installed and working correctly with the AverMedia software shipped with the product. However, the AverMedia software is buggy, crashes all the time and very inconsistent. I can get gbpvr to view the HD files recorded from AverMedia software from the Video Libraries.

gbpvr successfully recognized the device as (ATSC) and (QAM), I connected the cable, then picked QAM. Import an EPG from Schedule Direct. During channel mapping and channel scanning ( the blue light on the tuner turns on and seems like it has no problem communcating to the tuner). However, only 4 encrypted channels found after scanning. With the AverMedia software, a lot of encrypted and unencrypted channels were found after scan. I am attaching the log files below for QAM.

I then tried an antenna and used ATSC for scanning, again no channels were found (blue light on the tuner turns on during scan). With the AverMedia software, all the major networks are found without problem. I am attaching the log files below for ATSC.

Can you help me to figure out the problems? Thanks!

Unfortunately cant see anything obvious in the logs. I focused on the ATSC scan, since there is less things that could go wrong. No errors are shown, and it seems to go through the motions, but never finds the channels. Its like the device isnt delivering any information to the application. Unfortunately I dont know much about AverMedia devices, so I'm not even sure where to start.

I can't help but just wanted to say I have the exact same problem.

I'm exactly where you are--the program guide seems to be working, and my card's light comes on and blinks as the program moves from channel to channel scanning. But it doesn't turn up anything. I have tried over-the-air and QAM (and would prefer going with OTA).

I have attached my FilterCheck log if that helps anyone.

Also, I found a similar thread here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...=volar+max

Things were a little different though. He said the activity light wasn't turning on. Ours are. This is what solved his problem:

"You can try reinstalling your BDA components. To do this, double click C:\Windows\System32\bda.inf"

I do not have a bda.inf file in my system32 folder. The closest thing I have is "BdaPlgIn.ax" could this be the problem?

Yes, I do see the same thread and I also cannot find the bda.inf in my system32 folder. I am wondering if they are using Windows XP Pro. Obviously, someone can get the Avermedia Hybrid Volar Max to work with gbpvr. I have also tried installing the patches from the survival guide from sub and no success.

I am hoping if someone in the forum who got the Volar Max working can share their setup and experience.

By the way, sub, I really like your gbpvr app. It is one of the most stable app I have used. Only if I could receive and record a program, it would be almost perfect.

I do not have a bdainfo file just the bdaplgin.ax and bdasup.sys.

I did have a heck of a time getting it to work though. The channel scan crashes with an exception quite often. I had to redo the scan like 10 times before I got one to complete. If I remember I also had to go through a bunch of trials on the capture source before I got the right one. What shows in the Capture Source tab is BDA Recording Plugin and the edit window shows it as Digital Recording Plugin with "No Channel Changer Required".

Let me know if I can look up something else. I am about to try my second one here on another machine. The recordings from the Avermedia are almost without error (unlike the Pinnacle I has before which had 100's of sync errors in the stream).

I am entirely QAM based, no analog, no OTA.

I have a different Aver card. I had to run the Aver software first, tehn exit, then run GBPVR. Something was not initializing in teh driver. Not sure if it is the same problem, but worth a try.

If this works, let me know. I ahve a very small program that Aver sent me to just scan. It fires up on boot-up, but I close it instead of starting scan, and that seems to initialize driver OK, good until next boot.
