Going nuts! GBPVR on a Hauppauge HVR-1600

I broke down and bought a different card because I need QAM support. I don't care about HD but I have to have QAM to get certain channels in my area - Comcast Seattle area. Anyway, I bought the HVR-1600 because it said it supported QAM and its listed on gbpvr. Come to find out is a 74551 LF card, which I have seen people say yes it does and no it doesn't support qam. Can anyone confirm this? I'm not having any luck with qam with either WinTV or gbpvr...

Well, I did google it and doesn't say nothing official from hauppage, but it seems that it does not support it.
I read that they did introduce a early version of this card that didn't support qam and the problem is that it cannot be upgrade trought firmware.

I had that card also at first. i bought another newer 1600 card (dont have the model# handy) and popped it in and the hauppauge tuner software saw the different card and gave me qam support right away, however it would not tune the QAM channels. I did get some advice on my own post to try an older version of the hauppauge drivers and that did the trick. still ironing out some issues thou...

I also live in the Seattle area (North), and my 1600 recieves about 30 QAM channels (some of them HD). I drive the analog off the cable box for all the other channels. It takes a bit of time to get them tuned and mapped, but seems to work fine now (at least until Comcast remaps their channels again!@#).

My 1600's work fine but like JavaWiz mentioned, remapping is a pain whenever the cable co remapps their channels. (happens two 1 or 2 channels a year it seems.)

From the haupauge web site:

model 01199: WinTV-HVR-1600 with NSTC/ATSC/QAM support, on-board IR receiver and blaster, and English manual, in new smaller package (same contents as model 01178)
model 01181: WinTV-HVR-1600 with NSTC/ATSC/QAM support, on-board IR receiver and blaster, and French/Englsh manual
model 01178: WinTV-HVR-1600 with NSTC/ATSC/QAM support, on-board IR receiver and blaster, and English manual
model 01101: WinTV-HVR-1600 board only with NSTC/ATSC/QAM support, without remote control, with FM radio
model 01183: WinTV-HVR-1600 MC-Kit with with NSTC/ATSC/QAM support, Media Center certified remote control receiver/blaster and FM radio

Check which model number you have and compare with the above to see if your card supports QAM.
