Hey all.. I did a quick search and didn't really find anything so I thought I'd do this..

I frequently use IRC during the day for years now for various support needs, usually I site in #EnGarde on irc.freenode.net for support and the friends I've made using this Secure Linux distro.

I have created and registered on irc.freenode.net the channel name #gbpvr . All are welcome to come in and fellowship and perhaps get support there as well, in real time, if there are knowledgable people in the channel.

Let me know if you think this is a good idea, the channel is created and registered, and it's free you just need an IRC client. For Windows you could use the IRC client w/ Mozilla or mIRC (I'm sure there are more but I use X-Chat in Linux).

My name on IRC is Networker

Nice idea, if you want a simple and lightweight client for windows then try tinyirc, it's much simpler than mIrc [Image: smile.gif]

Thanks.. and thanks for the tip.. I'll have to try it here at home, haven't rebuilt my linux workstation yet.

I've seen you and sub and one other person pop in... maybe over time it'll get more use...

is tiny irc going to force me to register? or will it keep working like mirc? i LOVE it for simplicity, dislike for shareware.

edited for new modifier on my feelings towards the program. i may suck it up and pay for it.

If you want freeware you could get GAIM for windows, it has an IRC piece and it can be used for MSN, AIM, ICQ and of course IRC. I've only used it once or twice, at least it's free. I am currently using Mozilla Chatzilla, but it's bloated to have this installed just for IRC, I use Firefox for browsing.

Reven,

As far as here and away people in IRC, I think if you type (without the single quotes) '/who #gbpvr' it will show who is logged in and where they are from and what channel they are on as well as (here) or (away). IIRC

It will probably take a bit for people to get on the channel, I usually park there 24/7, sometimes forgetting to set my away msg. It'll just take a little time. I'm usually ON during the working hours here GMT-5, Eastern US.
