Long story short (typed up a detailed post and it didn't go through and it was gone :\)

I've tried just about all of the different media programs out there and Beyond TV has been the only one that's worked flawlessly for me without hassle for both analog and clear qam cable.

Searched the forums, tried all of the tips and tricks on this site, but still can't get it to recognize any qam channels.

Installed the softMCE from the Hauppauge site, did the survival guide patches, the qam.ini manager, re-registered filters, and every other solution a 950q search brought up.

Is there a specific order these things must be done in? Does anyone who has gotten their 950q working have a step by step guide on what needs to be done in order to get qam working on the Hauppauge 950q? I don't want to give up on this program just yet.

Do a scan, then zip and attach the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log files and I'll take a look.

Here are the logs and the order I did everything. I always start from a fresh pre-install restore point on my computer (running XP sp3).

1. Install 950q driver
2. Install softMCE
3. Install gbpvr
4. Generate xmltv file from mc2xml (using digital cable option from my provider in the list)
5. Apply 3 survival guide patches
6. qam.ini manager (default with channel frequencies option)
7. Create capture source (digital option with the 950q (qam) selected
8. EPG source - load xmltv file
9. Update EPG
10. Map digital channels
11. No channels found

I can see no sign of any errors in that log. The device never manages to lock on to a frequency though.

All I can think to try is the various options in the qam.ini manager to make sure you've scanned all possible frequencies.

If you are on a cable system that uses HRC frequencies, there is a version of the QAM.ini manager that adds HRC frequency support. It can be found at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post315524

Channels started showing up in the scan after using the new qam.ini manager, but the scan doesn't get a chance to finish. The whole program freezes up as soon as it hits channel 85.

Do you have the patches from the survival guide post applied?

The survival guide patches are applied. Also tried both of the new channel options in the new qam.ini manager (both result in found channels now) but on one option the scan freezes at 85, on the other option it freezes at 16. The only way to close it is to end the config.exe process in the task manager.

perhaps check the silicon dust channel database (http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels_us) to see which channels actually have a clear qam signal on your cable co. Then, starting from the qam.ini that is generated by the utility, edit it down so that you just have the valid channels. If the scan was barfing on one of the encrypted or garbage channels, then this will get you through the scan (and the scan will be lightning quick as a nice side bonus).

edit: also, here's a list relating cable channel frequency to channel number (since the silicon dust list will be by channel number while the hrc qam.ini will be by frequency): http://www.jneuhaus.com/fccindex/cablech.html
